Default Throttle Body...BBK or PORTED

Want to change throttle body and put an 80mm on my LS1.
Should i order the BBK 80mm or just find a ported one? Where could i get a ported one? Do the ported ones work just as well as the BBK's?
Would i just be paying for the name if i went with BBK?

I just ported mine, took a dremel and some automotive sand paper. you can find a write up on install university easy. Id save that $400.00 for another mod.

I got mine from Bauer for around $180.00 ported, polished and powdercoated red. They did an awsome job.

As much as I've done and investigated the TB mod I don't think the BBK is worth it. If you check out Lingenfelter, MTI, etc. you'll see nowhere that I've seen that these top end tuners seem to see the need to include more than a ported/dressed/cleaned up TB in their packages. I could be missing some other clue here but your $$$ would gain more elsewhere till you get to bigger cubes than a 382. Just what I've seen so far.

The BBK can be a pain in the a$$.
A ported TB will put 4 - 10 HP to the rear wheels depending your set-up.

Theres plenty being said by the top dog tuners on the S2 Performance TB`s,its not as simple as a one size fits all like many people seem to think.
Although they may look the same.......dont let`em fool ya theres one for every stage of modded car and each one works when applied as designed. The Big Dogs just never took the time to explore it but they sure have a face full of S2 now

BBK throttle body is junk for the money you pay for it. Does not work properly with install, lots of adjusting, cutting the spring to keep it from sticking and it will whistle. Therefore, go with the port and polish throttle body. I had a BBK once and now you couldn't give it to me. Therefore, go with the S2. I have one and it works great. MPH increases and so does the HP. What else could you want for a fast car. This is a common mod now. Good luck.

I agree that ported stock is the way to go, and at the risk of being accused of awful lies, I am happy with my S2.

A ported TB was worth 3rwhp and 5 rwtq on my bolt on car. LPE did mine, it was smoother inside, the blade shaft and been cut down a good bit and the LPE opened all the way. For the cost ($80) I've very happy with it.

This was before Shaner and Jantzer, started offering their ported TB's. If I didn't have a ported TB I'd read up and try either Shaners or Jantzers.

I don't think there is much if any value in a bigger TB compared to a stock ported one for a 346 displacement engine. Most of what I've read about the BBK 80mm is negative. The opening in the LS1/LS6 intake is about 70mm so I don't see how the BBK is really going to gain much.

For $400 would go a long way toward headers or LS1 edit or even a cam...all worth more than a BBK in my book.

That was for a Ported/Powder Coated TB plus the MAF ends powder Coated
