Default Loud Exhaust

I just purchased a 98 SS with a good amount of mods which one of them is LT's and loudmouth exhaust........well the car is too loud for my liking....is there an option to quiet it down by directly replacing the resonator in the loudmouth? If so - what is suggested? I want something a little bit quieter.

Thanks

alot of people put magnaflow/borla straight through mufflers in the slp resonators place and that quiets it down a bit but will still be pretty loud. If you want it really quite get slp dual/dual or hooker catback.

Absolutely. This is where we get names like DynoMouth, BorlaMouth, MagnaMouth, etc.

I'd suggest simply switching catbacks. If you want it to be just a bit quieter, go with Magnaflow, Borla, or Corsa. If you want it much quieter, go with Hooker or maybe SLP's 2OTL. If you want it as quiet as possible with your LTs, get SLP's Dual/Dual.

I doubt that swapping mufflers will make much odds to the db level. The tone will change but that probably about it.

A different catback is probably a better bet.

So you need a honda civic? Slap an extra bullet inline and should tone it down.

Mine seemed very loud when I first got it together but I'm kinda used to it now. Everyone tells me its f***** loud but they like it. Keep it for a while, if its too much then switch catbacks to the hooker.

I don't think either will quite it down much, it'll just rid it of rasp and give a different tone. Might as well switch catbcks if you want it quieter.

If you're running a LM, you can just get the mufflers that go with the LM II for about $70 a piece, and replace the resonators with the mufflers. Cheapest solution, and probably one of the best breathing exhausts still.

so the dynomouth and borlamouth won't do much for quieting it down? I mean it's good that they help with rasp but if they could make it a little quieter that would be ideal.

jesus... no big deal that he wants it quieter. Compared to a stock setup, LT ORY and LM makes these cars much much louder. I agree with Scotty-Z, if you want it a lot quieter, get rid of the ORY and install cats. For a stock engine, you won't see much performance loss doing this (≈5rwhp) and the exhaust will quiet down. Replacing the LM resonator with a muffler I dont think will quiet it down as much as you want it too, it'll get rid of the rasp and change the tone, but won't supress then noise much. If you do wind up installing a muffler, here's a good install guide. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139142
