Default banging y-pipe maybe a different fix

My Grotts y-pipe has started smacking the floor. Rapid Motorsports did the hose mod and that fixed the problem but the hose has disappeared I am thinking about taking it up to Meinike or Midas and asking if they have some type of hanger with a rubber insolator that the metal can be spot welded to the y-pipe and bolted to the floor board or frame rail where its hitting. Anyone else try this? Anyone got pixs? If this won't work can someone explain the hose mod for me because I never really did take a good look at the Rapid's set-up that was on there. I thought Mikey had wrapped the chunk of hoise with header wrap but I am not sure. Anyone???

the hose falls out when you torque the engine in reverse . ive been there, done that, many times hehe. i would get to the point where i would carry extra hose in the car.

ive heard someone that screwed the hose onto the actually body of the car.

y-pipe banging.

I'd try a torque strap first. My y-pipe didn't bang at first then it started about 2 weeks after I had install my headers and ory-pipe. I almost did the hose mod till I ran across the trq strap.
I put it on, tightened it up and no more banging. I saw some other people who fabricated a metal strap that went to the frame, but my $6.50 ratchet strap works good enough for me.

Not that it may help you, but when i replaced my Trans Mount my Y pipe stopped hitting the floor. For whatever reason my trans sat a hair lower enough to stop that damn noise!

my poly mount actually raise mine up a bit. but it stiffened it up. like i said in the other post- i got too much false knock with the tq. strap. only solution is to not have one at all apparently

I used a couple of self tapping screws and fastened a peice of power steering hose about 4 inches long to the floorpan right above where my y-pipe was banging. Haven't had a single bang since.

find the part of the y-pipe closest to the floorboard (probably where it's making contact), and get a ~2 inch piece of heater house.

Get a ~3" hose clamp (like on your intake/maf) and put it through the heater hose, and then put that around the exhaust.

This works good and will last years.

I cut a small section of a tow strap & glued it to the floorboards with a boat adhesive/sealer called 5200.Takes about 5 minutes to do & with that 5200 adhesive, it's now a permanent part of the car.

I just banged on the floorboard where it looked like it would hit, and I've never had a single bang.

I used the reliable brute force method. I jacked the car up, stacked some cinder blocks & bricks up under the driver's side floorboard, then lowered the car back down. The floorboard got pushed up a bit, but is not noticeable from the inside. Cured the banging completely.

Aka 14u2nv: I think the area where its hitting is the frame rail , so banging that in is out of the question. There is about 1/4 inch gap between the pipe and rail. Will heater hose melt if I attach it to the pipe? The idea of getting a small piece say 5-6 inches of 2 inch hose and put a radiator worm style clamp through it then around the y-pipe, use a bit of red locktite on the treads so it doesn't loosen up, sounds like it may work. Anyone got some good pics of this? Should I use some header wrap to? I don't want this rubber heater (radiator hose) melting to my y-pipe.

I did pretty much what Hitman did. I had the car jacked up on stands already. I took a small bottle jack and jacked up the section where it looked like it would bang. It crushed in the floorboard about 1/2" or so. Did it a couple times to get the entire area (it's the rail that goes perpendicular to the car). Then I cleaned it and repainted it. No problems, ever.

If you're worried about structural integrity, get some SFCs.
