Default IS it possible to make a LS1 sound good?

Well after driving my big block around for a while and blew a couple pushrods i had to insure the car again.. but im starting to relize how import like my exhuast sounds like!! i have no cats and open borla.. when rasp hits it sounds soo ricy... but its loud.. thats what i was aiming for with no cats.. but is there a way to have loud and deep exhusat?? i was thinkin since stock borla and cats is pretty deep i could cut out the borla?? but not sure if it would be any louder then open borla and be a waste of time and money?? and is it legal to pull a muffler? (emissions) Thanx for any help.. my next option was take out the cat back.. put duals before the axle.. on stock cats.. so basicly stock cats thro a straight pipe.. but once again emissions.. where can u have the exhuast dump out and be legal.. don't realy wana go over the axle.. (to quiet!) thanx again

If you really think an LS1 sounds like an import then you need to go to an ear doctor The LS1 has it's own sound, and I'm glad it does. You will never get it to sound like an iron block V8. You either love it or you don't.

there is no way to duplicate the deep rumble of a big block! Its simply amazing, you feel it more than hear it

While it doesn't sound like a BBC, I have to say my car sounds unlike any other LS1 I've ever heard. Very deep, and very (obnoxiously) loud. Not an issue since I do little street driving, though.

Sometime I need to post a sound clip.

I have been told that m,y car is the best sounding LS1 anyone has heard. I have a couple sound clips, but it doesnt do it justice iunless you have a subwoofer hooked to the comp. It doesnt sound like an ordinary LS1, they all sound like *** to me now

O come on you guys.. u think im that bumd? haha well i em dumb but not that bumd!.. i no theres no way to get it to sound like a BBC. Im just lookin for a loud but deep rumble.. i love the borla with cats and no plates.. but if it was twice as loud.. its just to quiet for my likeing.. it would be louder if i dumped em before the axle right? and would it make a major difference in noise with different pipes? say i use dual 2 and a quarter.. would it have more bark?? thanx

Well, my truck is a BBC and our Chevelle has a 540 cube Rat under it. They are both louder than my LS1....OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD!!! Especially the Chevelle running straight headers!

However my H&C LS1 with Grotyohann's, Random Tech cats, and ATR cat-back. It has a nice, deep rumble and is flat out loud at WOT. BUT...it's not obnoxiously loud, more like "Mature Loud!"

It suprises me that so many people here want a loud LS1. These f-bodies are nothing but police bait as it is. Why make it worse on yourself by diving an exceptionally loud police bait.

Hey, why not get a rear bumper sticker that says "Drunk Driver at the Wheel". That will also increase your chances of being stopped for no real reason at all.

Confused, to say the least...

I love the way my car sounds with only two simple things done to it, Hooker 3" catback and no converters. It sounds like a damn viper or something to me. It is kinda loud at wot but has a deep rumbling sound.

Also, here are some other things to think about as to why your LS1 sounds much quieter than your BBC;

1) 108 cubic difference. More air being pumped in and out is gonna inherently make more noise when it goes "Bang"

2) Firing order. Firing opposing cylinders as opposed to crisscrossing the firing order can make a difference in attenuation

3) Cam profiles. Much like displacement, a higher lift, longer duration cam profiles in either will make differences.

if you run longtubes through cats and a cutout, it sounds really good.

im running a cam, off road pipes and my cutout partly open and the rest going through the dual dual. at idle you can hear the lope, but the dual dual gives a nicer deep underlaying note.

i was thinking the other day that my car sorta sounds like an import- but believe me, if you ever hear your car from outside the cabin it sounds completely different. have your buddy drive your car around while youre outside. sounds completely different

I have Hooker LTs, ORY, and a Hooker cat-back. I LOVE the way it sounds, and even my Mustang friends agree that its one of the best sounding LS1s they've ever heard. Very quite at idle, but very loud at WOT. Doesn't sound like a "truck" anymore when I had the loudmouth on. I highly recommend this setup.

haha the one viper ive heard in real life was a gts and it sounded good like a throatier v-12 but it didnt have the ups truck sidepipes ive heard so much about. i used to prefer stang sound until i got my car and my borla . with stock manifolds and cats it pleases me just fine especially right around 5k rpm it kinda takes off and sounds especially nasty.

the thing about f-bodies is they sound especially loud for street style cars at least to me. from fireball's macs and open borla to my friends lt1 with hooker lt's and open borla it seems they are much louder than any other street car that is there even the stangs with no cats and one chamber flowmasters. maybe that crappy y-pipe is good for something

I think it has a lot to do with cam choice...
