Default LS1 Motorsports 310 HP Package

Gents,

I'am considering this for my 2000 SS. Only other mods I have is the SLP cat-back (not the Loudnouth) and CAGS. The 310 HP package consist of Direct-Flo lid, K&N or Holley Powershot and SLP 85mm MAF. My questions are as follows:

1. Will the larger SLP MAF make me run lean and if so, is that a big problem on a otherwise stock motor? I don't have Autotap or LS1 Edit.

2. The SLP MAF is the same one installed on the 6.0 liter motors from the factory. Are there any issues with it as has been reported with other replacements MAFs'?

3. Is anyone running this set-up and if so, what is your good/bad opinion?

I've installed the Direct-Flo on 2 other cars with no problems so thats not a issue.

Thanks for all knowledgable replys.

Enjoy your cars.

id stear clear of the aftermarket MAFs. just nock out the screan if u want. get a lid for sure, and it doesnt matter which brand. people will tell u to get what they have.... so get a MTI lid

I have a granatelli MAF and have had no problems with it. I also have the MTI lid and K&N and have had no problems with them either. The good thing about haven an aftermarket MAF vs. descreening your stock one is that the aftermarket ones usually have a warranty. so if it ever gets messed up, jsut send it back to the manufacturer.

hey drew, how did u hit 13.2 with only those mods? what tires do u have? what was the DA or elvevation?

Do you really already have indimidator #38?? ...or what's that supposed to mean?
..I wouldn't waste money on 85mm sensor, flow on a stock one is fine for a stock engine... and you run into tuning problems on modified engines. I ported and polished mine, that made it flow a little better and leaned it out a bit.. I believe 85mm sensor is one of the most controversial modes.

? If you have a Intimidator car converted by GMMG.. you already have a lid and ported MAF ends. ?

I have the 85mm SLP MAF,LID,Smooth Bellows,IAT module, and K&N filter on my 2002 Camaro SS. I've noticed a significant increase in throttle response. I'd say go for it but keep the stock parts in case you run into a problem.

When i installed my PACE 85mm MAF i richened up a bit but lost NO horsepower. Meaning i could lean out and gain about 3-4...good choice i think

well i pretty much have that setup on my car right now. i have an mti lid with k&n, and the slp 85mm maf. its a great combo. before the maf my car dynoed 311hp and that was with the stock maf descreened. the car only had 2200 miles on it so its not really broke in yet. the only thing i noticed with the slp maf was a loss of throttle response, but you get it back up top. the car normally only pulled to 5600rpm, but it pulls hard to 6000rpm now. this is normal according to the newest issue of gm high performance, and their dyno readings showed this engine response to be normal.

I have the LSI MAF, Tubes, Air box lid, --- no problem with these at all - you do not need PCM reprogramming

...free mods include eliminating the antifreeze going through the throttle body, lowering the thermostate opening temp and cutting off the restrictive tube in the intake manifold....

the LSI air box lid could fit better - I suggest you consider another producer for this item...

...I later installed an LS6 intake from LSI and had good results...

My exhaust (SS 1999) is stock so far; I like quiet cars and hate big exhaust noises; Is your non-loudmouth LSI really obnoxious compared to the stock sounding exhaust?

Robert,

The SLP exhaust (not Loud Mouth) on my 2000 SS is not loud at all. Its' not as loud as the GMMG Chambered System on my Dale Earnhardt Intimidator car and neither of them are obnoxious to my ears.

Personaly I, as well as others, love the sound of the GMMG exhaust. The choice is yours'

Enjoy your cars.

I bought an airlid from rk sport that fit so badly I had to bake it in the oven at 350 degrees for half an hour to get it soft enough to manhandle it into place!
The cookies I baked later that night didn't taste quite right either...

but I was interested in adding the 85mm MAF as well after reading that article. With the smmoth bellows it's around $350 from SLP?
Not sure about the 'controversy' - I thought it just took a couple of hundred km driving for the computer to re-learn the new parameters.

Is there more to it than that?

Gents,

Thanks for all the replys. Looks like I'll go with the Direct-Flo and Holly Power-Shot. The after market MAF is controversial and I'am undecided on that issue. Seems the SLP 85mm is the way to go since it is a GM part.

To answer a few questions: Yes, I own the #38 Dale Earnhardt Intimidator SS. Since Dale's death, it's not the weekend 'play-toy' that I hoped it would be. Seems all of them have became desirable collector cars, too valuable to drive on a daily basis.

My Mod questions are for my 2000 SS.

Enjoy your cars.

I wouldn't shy away from the MAF, just the SLP one. I, and many around me run the Pace LS6 calibrated MAF and have had good results.

Gents,

Thanks for all you're replys. Good exchange of info going on here.

Seems the Direct-Flo Lid and K&N or Holley is the way to go.

The best MAF for my set-up is still in question, although I like the SLP 85mm unit. Which MAF should I go with?

Enjoy your cars.

The Pace VV Maf looks good rather then the SLP 85mm MAF. Questions...

Whats' the price of the Pace Maf?

Where can I get one for the best price?

Thanks for your help and ....

Enjoy your cars.
