Air Pump problems???

Air Pump problems???

Ok guys I need some help on this one...I believe the part I will be referring to is the Air Pump...it's the thing that makes that annoying noise at start up..

Anyways normally it only ran or made the noise on cold start up's but lately every time i start the car even if I drive it for an hour, shut it off for 2 minutes and then restart it the damn thing runs, and it runs for like a good minute rather than the few seconds it normally always did.

Is there something wrong with it? why is it running on all start ups and staying on for a longer time than it used to?

Im just getting sick of hearing it...everyone looks at my car when I start it and I have had some people ask what that sound was....it just makes it sound like the car has something wrong with it....I didnt used to mind it being it only did it on cold start ups but now every damn time I start it i have to listen to that sound.... Any help or advice etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Mine's pretty quiet, only time I can tell it's even on is at night the lights sometimes flicker when it cycles, or I can hear it sucking air through the filter on my air tube hose with the hood rasied. You can do !AIR and have the codes turned off, leave the AIR and pull the AIR PUMP fuse and turn the codes off, just pull the fuse and live with a constant SES for P0412, replace the pump...just a couple ideas.

ya mine is pretty loud....it actually takes over the exhaust note and that is all you hear...maybe it is going bad or something...now this monring I ran to town quick and when i started it from sitting all night the air pump never ran...and when i started it in town to come home it didnt come on either so I don't understand what is wrong with it... thanks for your input!

Don't know about your area, but we don't have emissions inspections down here, so alot of people remove their AIR - friend of mine threw his in the trash last week from his 2K, I called him after seeing your post.

we don't have emissions up here but I don't know where I would go to get it programed out of the computer so that it didnt throw a code....

Will removing it cause any problems, increase/loss of power, increase/decrease in gas mileage... etc. ?

How hard is it to remove? and is there any write-ups on how to do it?

toss it man, i did and my engine bay looks better, no more annoying as floop floop floop floop floop floop, it should be a ten mil. you have to bring down the flap under the car thats under the headlight on the driver side and you can look in there and take it out then just undo it from the manifold and make a block off plate and get the codes deleted. there is some kind of ohm resister you can use to keep the code from coming on but i just got all of my emissions codes deleted permanently
