Default mti lid holes?

Hmm, took off my mti lid to do the free ram air install today, and noticed that theres 4 small holes, followed by 3 penny sized holes near the IAT sensor on the part that attaches to the MAF. From what I can tell, it lets unfiltered in straight to the MAF, am I looking at this wrong?

Groan, this looks messed up to me.

See:

Not sure what the heck happened here, I doubt it comes that way.

that looks odd. its probably something obvious that im unaware of, buut fortunatly its in the idea spot for a repair.

cut out and epoxy a little section of a plastic paint stirer on the inside of the lid right on top of it, and seal it with some rtv sealant.

Suggestion for repair? It looks intentional, so not sure what wacky intention it was. Probably let a lot of nasty dirt inside tho by now. Darn risk of buying used cars I guess.

ill elaborate on what i said in the above post, take a plastic paint stirer (doenst have to be that, but i found they work good for plastic repairs and patching, because they are strong but not brittle) and cut it in a rectangle to cover all of those holes, and glue it to the inside of the lid. I reccomend using gorilla glue (super strong, be carefull with that stuff!) to get it to adhere to the lid, the take some rtv sealant, and run a bead of it around the rectangle to get totall sealing. that should do it, and it will be hardly visible

any place that has paint. Home depot, wal-mart, just check in the house paint department, they are like $1

you dont have to use that specificly, but i just found they make a great low profile brace for plastic products.

I put the back of my car through a fence, and got a 6inch rip in my bumper cover right below the tail light. i couldnt get another one for a month or two, so I took it off, and gorilla glued some plastic paint stirers i had in the garage on the back of the rip to hold it together, and it worked great! i used clamps to hold it all together, and they held together for liek 6months, even when i replaced the bumper, and pulled on it to get it off, the seam didnt seperate

heres a little pic i stiched together for ya

that paint stick was even dirty and half melted for some reason and it worked great.

ths black tape on the white is to protect the paint from the clamp

Plus when I read it before I saw the picture I thought that you were talking about the Air/EGR crap on the driver side next to the IAT hole.

The car I bought came with the lid, never noticed the holes until last night when I took the lid off. Someone was on crack. I hate to replace it, hopefully can fix it, since I'm broke enough as it is. ;-)

Thanks for your patience CamaraExtra; I think it was way past my bedtime or something because I couldn't understand what the heck you were talking about. I was like, what the hell is plastic paint, and why would a stirer be useful? LOL sigh.

Actually, I'm now using a big Tornado sticker to temporarily block the holes. ;-)

I asked the previous owner, he said he got it used for like $25 and he only plugged the one hole that was tapped for nitrous. I don't think he realized that the open holes were going to let unfiltered air in. grumble grumble

The small holes are strange, no cracks or anything so they were well done holes at least, but who the heck knows why!
