So I have poly mounts and headers ready to go on. I'm getting all kinds of ppl telling me it's way easier to headers on a lift. So should I put the car on a lift to get the manifolds out, take it off to put the mounts in, then put it back on for the header install? Sounds like a lot of complication. How much harder would it be to do headers on jackstands? We have a set of 4 huge tractor jackstands that will get the car plenty high in the air. I'd say at least 2 1/2 to 3 feet.

i did headers in my garage on two tall jackstands and two regular stands. a lift is always better because more room to do whatever but its not bad to do it with stands.

You can do it however you want really but both at the same time makes it easier to just get all the 13mm bolts off and then pop out the long 18mm one holding it to the engine so this way you can just jack up the engine, pull the old mounts out, swap out the rubber for poly inserts, put um back in there and then lower it back down on top. Get the 18mm bolts back it and then wiggle the engine around to get the other 13mm bolts back. Thats how I did it the few times I had to do these....fun times...

Quick question, I see everyone saying how hard it is to get the center bolt back in after bolting the clamshell back to the motor. Has anyone tryed doing it the opposite way? Put the center bolt in first then the 4 bolts for the clamshell? Ill be installing mine soon, just waiting on new motor mount bolts because the idiot that installed my motor put them in backwards and I have to either remove the headers or cut them out....theyre getting cut.

After reading thru all 10 pages: the latest feedback suggests the easiest way is to loosen center long bolts, then remove upper bolts from clam-shells to block and then remove lower pedestal bolts to k-member and remove entire assembly to work bench for rebuild w/new bushings, then install in reverse.

Correct?

On my 99 on the drivers side there is a metal heat shield that goes in front of the mount, does everyone leave those on or toss them?

We did steps 15 through 18 a little different. We cut out the entire riveted section with a bandsaw. Clamped em up in a vice, welded and painted.

Nope, cut weld, remove mount, install new mount, weld again.
