Now the sending unit wouldn't fit the way it is supposed to be secured to the back of the manifold. So he turned the sending unit upside down and rebent the little bracket so it would secure the sending unit back to the manifold. So now we get the manifold on and figure out that you can't get to the bolts with the new fuel rails on. So they had to come back off to tighten the manifold down. The bracket holding the throttle body cable also needs to be shaved down quite a bit to fit with the new fuel rails. If I remember anything else, I'll post it up.
For what it's worth, we at Professional Products are making the necessary changes to alleviate these problems. We are turning the MAP sensor mounting 180 degrees which will solve that problem. I have to study the issue on the fitting clearance but will come up with a fix for that. I have ordered a stock throttle cable bracket from GM and will see what is involved in modifying that to clear the fuel rail and will include a new bracket that will work in future manifold kits. We will also have to include that bracket with our fuel rail kits.

We are looking at providing a tee fitting that the two back vacuum fittings would screw into. This combination of fittings would screw into the tapped hole on the back of the driver's side of the manifold. We would supply a pipe plug for the other tapped hole. If you feel this would work, please let me know.

Jim it is good to hear that you are going to make the nessassary changes to the package to make it a direct bolt on, I applaud you for that.

However, understand the side of the customer. He buys an intake that is marketed as a bolt on piece for his camaro/firebird/whatever..... and when thigns don't fit right.. he is left asking "didn't they say this was a bolt on? Didn't they have a car to test fit it on before they made it?"

Personally, I have to agree with the customer on that, but again, I am glad to see that you are making the changes nessassary to maek the part fit correctly without the customer having headaches.

When your 96mm piece is available with the throttle body, or with a bolt patern to fit a 90mm NW throttle body, please PM me, I'd like to give it a try. I'm sure you'll have them at a level where it can be bolted on in place of a fast 90mm by then, and I'd like to be able to do a ofirst hand test with that.

Just to make sure you know...I'm not ******* your product by any means Jim. I'm just trying to make it easier for others when they recieve your manifold. I'm keeping your mainifold, and I already got rid of my LS6, so I have no intentions of changing my mind about it. It cleans up the engine bay very nicely, and as far as I'm concerned, it made as much power as the LS6. I don't mind being the guinny pig every once in a while...as I intend to be one again when your 85mm throttle body comes out as well. Make sure you let me know when it does come out so I can give it a try. Thanks for listening, and trying to work out these minor issues. We all appreciate it.

I never felt that you were critical of the product, just poining out some valuable information that we need to make the parts right.

We made the error of duplicating the setup and the fittings on the back of the Weiand manifold which is obviously incorrect.

We got the first article of the 85mm t.b. last week and are running tests on it right now. It looks terrific and appears to work perfectly and I think you will be very pleased with it. The factory that makes our t.b.'s is an OE throttle body manufacturer and they really know what they are doing. We have been extremely pleased with the other throttle bodies they make for us.

I do try to understand the side of the customer. We made the mistake of assuming that somebody's else's product was correct when we came up with the fittings and hole locations on the back of the manifold since we had duplicated what another manufacturer was doing. Obviously it wasn't correct. And so now we are doing everything we can to make it right.

The tee fitting sounds like it might work. The only thing I would be concerned about is the smaller vacuum line. With a tee fitting, it would be pointed straight at the sending unit. The smaller vacuum line had no obsticles behind it. The larger one needed a 90* fitting to clear the map sensor, and the sending unit had to be pointing the other direction(toward the larger vacuum line). And we just took a grinder to the bracket holding the throttle body cables. Can't wait to get a new throttle body. I really think it will open the intake up a little bit, being that my throttle body is the only thing in my intake that isn't 85mm. We'll see what happens.

on mine i used a 1 inch straight into a 90* fitting then to the tee which brougt everything up and out of the way. works perfect!

I think you should look into the runner design a little more. needs more of a curve at the mouth.

We just mocked up our manifold with a tee fitting and it will clear the MAP sensor easily especially after we move the map sensor hole up as planned. I just e-mailed you via the e-mail service on this site, which doesn't give out your address or allow me to send a picture. If you send me your e-mail address I will send a photo of what we are proposing.

We are very anxious to start shipping the new throttle bodies because I know that once people see them and considering the price, I think they will be very popular. I am just sorry now that we didn't design the die casting to accommodate a 90mm bore since that seems to be the "hot" size. For most engines, the 85mm will be more than large enough however.

Fortunately we do have an LS1 dyno motor so that is something we could do. We worked with an LS1 specialist on the design of this manifold and I will ask him to modify a couple of them and we will run them on the dyno to see what we can do.

Unfortunately, with the type of tooling we use, any changes at this point are very, very expensive.

Default would like any info available, intake in garage

hello,
i have been following this artical, and i have the professional products typhoon in the garage now ,i have a 98 trans am ,the regulater is built into the fuel rails first off? so i need a regulater and the professional product guy said it wont be ready for a month , can you please recomend another brand, cause im not just installing the intake , im installing a brand new fully forged ls1/ls6 that dyno'd @ 537 hp a couple weeks back , and i plan on doing the install within the next week or two, next question is on the stock throttle body there is a vacum line male conector that interfers with the intake ,if you are looking @ the setup like it was in the car , it would be the top left rear of the throttle body ? what should i do with that ? i was thinkin cut it and clamp the hose on to it? is there a way maybe i can heat it and move it? as far as the map sensor goes ,i would like photos ? and i also think i need to re route the coolant line that runs under the old intake , correct? when will the 85 mm throttle be availible ? and how much?thank you for any help you can provide . please send to playa4life3125@msn.com

Please send me the pics as well since my manifold is in the mail.

I'm glad you're ficing it but sad that I ordered before the kit is right. Maybe if I don't get it installed right away, you can mail me the rest of the kit?

jim will any other sizes of throttle bodies be offered later such as a 90mm
or a 100mm?
also has your company considered producing an intake for the newest of the LS family engines like the LS7 and the newer L92?
there currently is very few if any aftermarket manifold options for these
newer engines and for now it seems like stock GM manifold is the ONLY available manifold for the L92 heads, and even this one is not yet available
at this time.
im sure PP may want to look at these new engine versions and consider products, seeing as how it seems these are currently the highest flowing head availble from GM in stock form, but with the least options in the induction department.
thanx

We have a 96mm throttle body being tooled up right now. It is capable of also being offered in a 101mm version also. This is in an LS2 style design so it will not work on a regular LS1 manifold. We offer two LS1 manifolds. One is designed for up to an 85mm LS1 style t.b. and the other has an LS2 style flange on it and will accept up to our 96mm LS2 style t.b. It has a 96mm inlet on the manifold.

At this time we have not looked at LS7 or L92 engines or heads. It is very difficult for us to design products that, at least initially, would have a limited market because they are so new. There is a very large upfront expense in doing these manifolds and we need a lot of sales just to break even.

I wouldn't rule out addressing products for these engines in the future because we are definitely committed to expanding our line for late model engines.

If I can find some way to get the car thru emmissions without the maf, then that's a differnent story... I'd seriously consider a 4150 style TB and a 4 inch cowl hood so I can stuff a very small air filter on it.
have your tuner set the MAF MIL's to non-emmisions and it will pass.

you could ask if it's as simple as having a local machine shop hog it out and get a new blade....That's if you're talking ls2

hey jim,i know this sounds stupid being you already have the intake in production but from what i see there seems to be an improvement with flow if you would take the runner opening and put a 45 degree or so rake on it.that would cut down what looks like a 90 degee bend the air has to make when it enters the manifold port.less bends the better.that in turn would increase the volume of air the intake would hold.might breathe a little better.
