A Lid is a Lid is a Lid. The clear ones tend to crack FWIW.

Well, some lids tend to crack and some lids tend to rub on the underside of the hood. It is a Win or Lose situation.

I'm sure if you really want a genuine carbon fiber one you could have one made but it would cost loads of $$$$$. Plus it really wouldn't offer any real benefit.

Fake carbon look ones are IMO just Chav (aka Ricer).

Having done much research in the past I have heard the best reports for lids in this order:

1. TSP
2. SLP
3. MTI
4. Whisper

I've got a Granetelli that is carbon fiber, it came with the car, so I don't really know if it is real CF or where it came from.

I'm not sure, but I serously doubt it is real CF. I would expect a real CF lid to cost in the region of $300-$500 based on prices of CF.

To put it in perspective WRC rally cars use a lot of CF, a rear bumper is made from it and typically cost about £3500 (times by 1.75 for US$).

I've never heard anything bad about the CF ones and I actually think they look pretty good.

There fake carbon fiber. It would be pretty expensive to have a real carbon fiber lid. I have one that I bought off a member here and I like it. It does the job and it was cheap too.

Like Jordan said...A lid is a lid.

Go with the one that looks the best to you. End of thread.

I have the fake CF liid, and I haven't had any fitment or rubbing problems. Although it is a fake CF pattern, it doesn't look too bad being that most people would be looking at it from about 4+ feet away. I wanted to maybe paint it, but I'm afraid of the steel clamps on the front scraping the paint off. (yes, I know one of the back tabs is not seated properly. i fixed that after the photo. )

Good to hear. I think that it is when you start trying to fab a bellow for them or they have just been aged+heat that is when the problems start happening.

I have the clear MTI lid, I havent had any problems with it, but I can definetely see how they would be more prone to cracking. They seem to be made of a harder potentially more brittle plastic than other lids I have seen. But like I've said I haven't had any issues yet.
