Default Just got loudmouth installed ....

and I'm very disappointed. It is way too loud and it makes the interior of my car vibrate including my monsoon radio and something in the back. I am so bummed because I paid 325 for the exhaust and 75 for installation. Now here is what I was thinking.

1) Put back the old exhaust and put a magnaflow
wide open muffler (will cost me )

2) Just find someone who will do a true dual dual
setup for me (will cost me much more )

Which one would you guys do ? I'm already out major bucks. WOuld a true dual really make a diff in HP. I'm looking for a deep rumble yet still stealthy enough to accelerate quickly on the streets. Thanks Much

It's been a horrible day

You shoulda listened to cars with it before you got it
I have one but I always drive with my cut out open so it noise doesn't really bother me. After I got my cut out my headshield over my axle started to rattle, people have said you can move/remove it but it doesn't bother me that much...
Hope you get things straighten out

Chop out the resonator and put the Borla XR-1 in. Way better low-end sound.

Peace,
Craig.

Due those Borla mufflers decrease performance ? I mean is it straight through ? I might just sell the LM.

Pop in a $40 Dynomax Bullet Muffler in place of the resonator. Kills the rasp and mellows out the tone a little.. no loss of performance.

Thanks, are those dynomax bullets bolt ons or does it require welding ? The exhaust guy who installed my LM really made me mad because he welded some of my LM parts without asking me. Now it will be harder to sell (if I decide to do so) !

The Borla has some "meat" on both ends and you might be able to have it bolted in, but most likely it will have to be welded.

Peace,
Craig.

I forgot to add:
When you put any bullet muffler in you will be chopping out the resonator. The bullet has to be longer than the resonator if you want to be able to "bolt-it" on. I have not heard of anyone doing this. I have seen people sell Loudmouths with XR-1's all the time. Don't fret about it.

BTW- I have the 3-1/2" Borla XR-1 and you can look straight through it. The wallls have a bunch of little holes and it has a "V" running through the muffler with the same design of holes.

Peace,
Craig.

Man either your senses are off, or your the biggest puss I've ever heard of. The loudmouth with cats, and stock manifolds is not as loud as your saying it is. Anyway... you think the resonance is bad with the loudmouth? And you want true duals? You better think again. Sorry if I'm coming offa bit harsh, but the loudmouth is not THAT loud at all. Especially around town. But we all have our own opinions, XR-1s are pricey($130+), the dynomax bullet isn't really going to quiet it down a whole lot. If I were you, I'd choose a good muffler and have it welded in where the resonator is.

Wow that was pretty harsh . However, with the LM, I can't accelerate cuz I will draw way too much attention to myself. And believe me, when I say loud I mean LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOUUUUUD !!

WS6-Beast,

I hated the LM too. Awful drone and sound IMHO. Just do yourself the favor(instead of trying to modify what you already have) and bite the bullet and get another exhaust. It sounds like you really want a Hooker or Magnaflow cat-back. Quiet deep tone during acceleration with a loud WOT sound when you get on it.

I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the LM. I have it on my 'bird and I love it. I also suggest giving it some time. You might end up really liking the sound. I've seen a lot of complaints from individuals on here saying it's too loud....maybe that's why they call it the "Loudmouth" in the first place. If there is ever any doubt about a part you're going to purchase, you might consider asking the shop you buy your parts from if they know of someone who has it already installed. You might be surprised how many speed shop employees will have already done to their cars what you're considering.... As far as the LM's sound, if you drive it properly, you can accelerate without waking up the whole neighborhood. I can't believe how much the place that installed your exhaust ripped you off! It's a real easy job that can be accomplished with simple hand tools, but a saws-all would help too....$75 was way too much to pay to have bolt-on parts installed. I would look elsewhere in the future if you decide to let someone else modify your car for you.

Your best solution will be chopping out the resonator and putting in a DynoMax race bullet muffler. Either the shorty (#24222) or the long bullet (#24219). They are both around $40 from Jegs.
Here is a sound clip of a LM with a bullet:

http://www.thedarkangel.info/dynojesse.wmv

The sound gets deeper, slightly quieter, and more refined.
Good luck
Dave

Hey Whats up Nate. WS6-Beast, do you still have stock manifolds and cats? I have LT's and offroad exhaust, and I can hear my radio just fine with my duals, but there is alot of interior noise sometimes. Doesn't really bother me though. If you put in a bullet muffler in place of the resonator, I don't think YOU'LL be happy, the way you describe your exhaust preferences. True duals will not be stealthy at all, friends/family can hear me from pretty far off, hell they know I'm there because they can hear my exhaust from inside there house/apart. But I tend to like my exhaust on the loud side , but the interior noise is not that bad, nor unbarrable to me. If you like quiet I'd put the stock exhaust back on, and just get a cutout for performance, then when you want loud uncap it, when you want quiet cap it. Stock exhaust would be nice sometimes, and since you have it you wouldn't be out any money. Just sell the LM. But probaly the cheapest/quickest route would be have a muffler welded in place of the SLP resonator. Magnaflow/borla/corsa, etc... then you'd have a good sounding exhaust, that suites your taste, and it'd be alot quieter. Let us know what you decide to do.

I miss hearing my radio !! Is there anything else besides the dynomax that will quite it down yet still have the best perfromance ? Borla is a bit expensive. Dynomax is still a bit loud. If only our cars came with a good exhaust system, I wouldn't have to worry about this.

If you dont have your cats then its loud. With cats its not all the bad. Do you have a a4 or m6? I have a cutout and i loved it open, now i have a ory-pipe and now its to loud and raspy. I have a mangnflow, the ory-pipe gave it life and now the car sounds like it should. If you want something a little louder then stock get magnflow.
