I say get them, its a good bit of money if you buy them new but you can get some good deals on used ones, they make some good power and will help all your current mods as well and help any future mods. if you get them and need them installed let me know.

"You forgot to mention the huge PITA the header install is Colonel."

So you have to ask yourself is it worth the money to pay someone else to do it!

the most popular headers we sell are the mac headers and i would say that they are money well spent . go to our build up @ http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/pbperformance
in a few days and we'll have some hp gains for you .

later

I was in the same boat as you as we have the same car... Anyway, I got the SLP headers with high flow cats, bolts up nicely to the SLP center mount exhaust. Can't say the power gain was huge but it was noticeable (engine revs much quicker/more free) with the headers. I am about to do an Ls6 head and cam install and that's when I think they'll really make a difference. You are worried about hurting the value, right? I recently took mine to the dealer and when he questioned the headers, I told them they were factory and pointed the the SLP logo on the headers, and they bought it. If you want to keep the "stock" value, add the SLP's, they won't hurt it. I am also keeping all the factory pieces for just in case. Personally, after months of agony, I decided I am going to mod the heck out of mine.

Get the catdelete pipes from mufflex, and a slp y-pipe. Its 450 plus 100 for 02 sims. It worth it ,its like adding LTs with the 00+ exhaust manfolds. You will dyno like 2-5 less from lts on a stock car. Dont forget the cutout! Stay away from the BASSANI 0ry-pipe!

I would not worry about the stock value of the car. These cars de-value extremely quickly. I saw a 99 z-28 LS1 for $9,500 today in the newspaper (41K miles). I also know a dealer that is giving HUGE discounts on the last 2003 LS-1 pontiac WS6 cars... these cars have been sitting in the lots for months...no takers...

..apparently they can't give the cars away...

...so I say the general public does not recognize how fun these cars are...therfore, go ahead a put headers on the car....it won't be worth much soon anyway ...so who cares ,..the cars have no resale value PERIOD.....

You are not riding around in an F-Body to get rich on resale value...you are doing it to kick some Mustang ***...

Thanks for all the replies. I'm probably gonna go with the SLP Headers and High Flow Cats since I already have the SLP Cat Back system. I know it's gonna be a PITA installing them but if it wasn't challenging it wouldn't be fun. If I get the headers will I have ground clearance issues if I have the 1LE Suspension Package?

cars with minor bolts ons have seen up to 25rwhp in gains. Plus the car sounds badass after. As for PITA for install, hooker's and FLP's are supposed to be easy. altho SLP's are known for being hard to install.

If I were you I wouldnt get the slp headers, nor would I get cats. I would eather get a set of jet coated macs, or some new qtp lt's. About ground clearance, it wont be a problem, but the header collectors will be the lowest hanging part, so if you did scrape thats what you would hit. About the install there are 2 guys currently in augusta with headers on there cars, zshark and myself will be back in augsuta during the holidays and I can get the headers on there for you no problem. instant message me at ssrudolph1

Roadrunner-r:

You suggest using an ORY with the 2000+ exhaust manifolds. Are the iron manifolds actually better than the 98-99 tubular versions? I though the iron only helped with noise and are less expesive to produce (my assumption). Will this method work with a mild cam, or is your recommendation based on a primarily stock car?

Thanks

The reason I'm leaning towards the SLP's is if I do have a problem with the car and need warranty work done I don't think GM would give me too hard a time about the SLP parts. I know there are companies out there that make a better product than SLP but I've had good experiences with SLP so far. I want to keep the cats basically because it's the law. Anytime a cop sees my car my Radar Detector goes off. They're looking for a reason to bust me and I ain't gonna give it to them. Anyways it's gonna be after the new year before I'll be able to afford headers. I'm just trying to research as much as I can now so I won't be kicking myself in the a$$ later. Thanks again to everyone who's left replies.

Default Upgrade to aftermarket headers or keep it stock???

I have a 2002 Camaro SS 35th Anniversary Ed. My current mods are SLP Lid, K&N Filter, SLP 85mm MAF, SLP Smooth Bellows, TB Bypass, and SLP Center Mount Catback Exhaust. Should I get aftermarket headers (I.E. SLP, FLP, Hooker) or should I stay with the stock headers?

If you're going to upgrade the cam then get 'em. If you're going to stay with the stock cam then you just need to ask yourself if 20 HP or so is worth the money to you.

Rimbaud-68

The headers help out alot on heads/cam cars. They don't do a whole lot on stock internal motors. They do however sound badass. Be mindful of your warranty too. It's your call...

What about upgrading to a larger Y-pipe only and keeping the stock headers? A safe way to boost HP or a waste of money?

I've heard that if you do just ypipe and maybe high flow cats, the gain is maybe 3rwhp or so. BTW, I'm very happy with my TTS headers and hiflow cats so far.
