Default LM, GMMG, or High Quality Custom Dynomouth

I've now ruled down to three options, SLP LM, GMMG, or High quality custom "Dynomouth." What I mean by at least high quality is not necessarily the highest quality, but at least a Dynomouth with the quality of a LM.

The proposals I have made are:

1. Get a LM, replace the resonator with a DynoMax Bullet.

2. Have a custom shop construct something of a Dynomouth with the build and lasting quality of a loudmouth.

3. Simply go with the GMMG exhaust.

What I'm trying to achieve is: It's loud, but what will do the best job to rid the drone and is it cost effective? Please feel free to inform me of any of what is really the smartest option.

Drone of some magnitude is simply unavoidable the louder you try to get the exhaust. If you don't want drone, I'd leave it alone. I have the LM on my 'bird, but I personally like the drone. Maybe it's from growing up at the dragstrip.....I wouldn't risk having a shop build one only to be disappointed with fit and finish. At least with the LM, you get a warranty and it's easily removed if you decide to at a later date.

Can't beat dynomouth for the price. Can't beat the GMMG on sound.

A 3" non-mandrel pipe won't flow as well as a 2.5" mandrel, something to think about.
As for quality, I might point out that the factory pipes are mandrel bent stainless. At 2.75", the pipes flow very close to 3" mandrel pipes. The .25" difference actually means very little to a mild to moderately modded car.
One thing you might do if you insist on doing a custom 3" is get the mandrel bent I pipe parts available from DynoMax. www.jegs.com carrys it though I am not sure of the part number. Last I heard it is around $50.
Good luck

If you are looking into doing something "high quality custom" I would do something like JSears:

Now that's the sound that makes me drool. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Jegs has them, but they are considered "special order". The part number is 289-54064. This is for the I-pipe. Now where it gets fuzzy is DynoMax shows another part number for the over the axle pipe (289-53061), but DynoMax says both pipes are under the first part number. Doesn't sound right to have 2 part numbers on one hand, but sell both under 1 on the other. I would talk person to person with Jegs and find out exactly what you are getting with the part numbers.
Good luck

How is that the most expensive set-up???

I have the GMMG set up and love it. Everyone in the Western Washington Firebird Club that I am in loves it. That includes one guy with a LM. The LM is the loudest from my experience BUT people comment on the GMMG more. I haven't even mentioned the way it looks! I polished it before putting it on and give it a good wipe down every week.

The only thing I can think of about proposal #1 is why cut-up something new? If it is too loud then it's too loud. Proposal #2 sounds like it would be the most expensive when complete and you are looking to save a couple of bucks.

I bought my set up plus the $150 tips plus had them overnight it to me for a total of $950. A local shop did the swap in 30 minutes for $45. You can get it cheaper doing it yourself, not overnighting it and not buying the tips.

I hope this helps.

My thoughts about option #2 are without knowlegde of prices. He stated that he would but the Dynomax and have it custom fabbed in. Depending on who does this work and the quality of the work and the materials is what drove my opinion. Manderal bends and stainless steel will cost. If the price for the Dynomax is what you say it is maybe this is a viable option that comes out the cheapest. Afterall, true hotrodding is based on getting the most out of less at the best price. Good luck with whichever way is chosen.

I have the LM on my 2000 Z. I love it, even the slight drone. I get tons of compliments on it. But its odd because my LM seems to sound better then most people's that I've heard (I did take the extra step though to make sure their are no exaust leaks though-out my system).
