Default Header leak

When we first installed my headers we used the paper gaskets that pacesetter gives you. Well I decided to go ahead and swap them out with some OEM gaskets. After I installed the new OEM gasket I have a bad leak because the gasket won't seal completely....I believe this is due to the flange being slightly warped and yes all the bolts are torqued down right. It sealed fine with the paper gaskets though, so should I just put another paper gasket in or is there something else I could do? Thanks ahead for the help

You might need to pull the header and place it on a flat surface to see if its straight. Might be warped.

Try using Percy's header gaskets. They are pretty darn thick. I used them after my oem replacement gasket was leaking on the passenger side.

So far so good.

Get them from summit racing p/n PHP-66032, one bad thing it ships on 6/01 (must be a popular item) I'd check some of the other sponsors to see if they have them in stock

Might try new stock metal gaskets, the old ones might be too compressed (due to the age) that they don't seal, they're only about $20 so it's not too bad to give it a shot, you can get them from the dealer, or from SDPC.
Or you could just get another set of paper gaskets to hold you over until the percys are available

I ordered mine from Speed Inc. I emailed them about header leaks and they said most of the time, they don't have problems with the OEM gaskets. But the few times they do, they use Percys. They have awesome service and quick turn around times.

Good luck !

Felpro's are pretty thick, and readily available at the local parts stores.

Yes, you should be able to get Percy's gaskets at any local part stores- at least Autozone for sure and they probably have the LS1 set in stock. They are a little pricey, about $35, but it will be the last ones you ever have to buy.

None of the Autozones I called had Percy's. $35?...that would be Percy's reusable aluminum header gaskets. They also make a carbon header gasket for around $14, and from the sound of the manufacturer's discription the carbon gasket might be the better of the two for sealing a leaky situation.

Has anyone on here used Percy's carbon header gaskets?
