Default How do you pass emissions in CT?

Anyone running an illegal setup in CT? I'd love to ditch the cats n such, but I don't see any easy way to pass emissions. What do you guys do? Also, I heard that LT's are illegal? Does anyone know what types of tests CT uses? I'm pretty sure they have a visual test....

your in luck, im actually a ct emissions tester. when we run a test, we just check to make sure that the car has cats (we dont care if theyre hollow or factory or not, as long as there is one) and that there is a gas cap. then we hook it up to the computer and check for codes (the computer does it for us without us doing anything, it checks for what it needs) and if there are no codes, and the drive cycles have been completed, as in not having the codes cleared recently or battery disconnected, it will pass. now, if you were to go to a hackshop, or shady place, they might not care if it has cats, might not even check, but thats kinda a toss up as to whether they care enough to check or not, but the state has been cracking down on us lately for not checking, they send in dummy cars with no cats to make sure we are checking. otherwise, you will pass if you have no codes (i assume you have dummy o2's since it will throw a code otherwise) and it appears to have cats. otherwise, you will have to put in something that resembles a cat to get it to pass. hope that helps

Thank you very much, that has been a great help. So CT doesn't have a sniffer test?

i called around before i put my supermaxx headers on. i talked to the tech for firestone in norwich where they do emmissions testing and he told me not to worry about a thing. i specifically asked them if there was any law that said long tubes where illegal. they told me that they have never heard anything about it.

Ex CT emissions tester here...

Gubachoo hit the nail on the head. At my shop we never really checked for cats unless there was someone from the state there watching us, I never got in any trouble because of it but I may have just gotten lucky. My advice would be to mount some heat sheilds that look like cats, most inspectors wont give it a second thought.

And Ct does have a sniffer test but only on '95 and older cars. If your car doesnt have any codes it may still get thrown to the sniffer test if more than three moniters are not set. But even without cats you might still pass, CT standards are very lax.

Good luck, if you have any more questions just post them up.
