I have the loudmouth and installed the SLP Y-pipe, i did not notice any seat of the pants feel or increased throttle response. the only thing i noticed, which is what i was hoping for, was that it gave the LM a slighty more throaty sound. most people wouldnt notice but i know my ride and what it sounds like
If you are going towards headers in the future save the $. you will just have to get another y-pipe for the headers again.

the slp y-pipe would not make that much of a gain in horsepower if the car is basically stock. The SLP y-pipe is basically just a wider pipe that would just lessen the amount of resonance that reflects back from the muffler to the y-pipe. Simply because if the diameter of the pipe is wider then there is less air flow disturbance.

Yes, it does increase performance. No, the y-pipe would fit with some headers but not all headers ofcourse.

If your looking for the most output of your exhausts then get headers (and y-pipes if possible). If you want a slight rumble with your exhaust with just a bit of extra horsepower go with the y-pipe. Make sure its a 3inch one by the way.

good luck.

Some say yes some say no. I think it is good for 3-5 RWHP and it does give the exhaust a better tone. It is definately not worth it if you are going with LTs in the near future. BTW I will have a take off SLP y pipe ('99) next week (My FLPs are going on). Drop me an e-mail (niphilli@vt.edu) or check the classifieds next week.

SLP Y-Pipe

PROS: Deeper tone..Not much but some.

CONS: Hangs about 3/4" lower to the ground than the stock Y-Pipe.

I didn't notice any changes in HP. I can say that the addition of the SLP Y-Pipe made my third gear scratches (M6) less pronounced. It seemed to take away something. I can still get them but now it's just seems a little milder than with the stock pipe.

Just make sure you use mandrel bent parts or you are actually losing flow.

Anyone out there running a Borla, or LG Motorsports G2 bolt-on Y-pipe? Supposedly the G2 piece is 2-3/4" dia., where the SLP unit is only 2-1/2" dia. Don't know about Borla pipe dia., Collector size all 3" I believe.... Anyone help? Thanks. WJ. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I thought that the SLP Y pipe was suppose to be worth 10hp at the flywheel over the stock pancake Y pipe that GM installs.

I doubt very seriously it makes a difference on even a moderately modded car. If you look at that flattened pipe closely, it is very well executed. It is completely mandrel bent (the hard way at that) and has been widend to make up for some of the flatness.
IMHO, for that kind of dough, the Y-pipe is not worth anything. The only possible place it might have an advantage is in Kalifornia where big brother won't let you have much, so every little bit helps.

I've had the SLP Y pipe for almost four years on my car. My car also has the SLP dual/dual. My dual/dual is slightly louder other dual/dual's factory installed or otherwise.

When correctly installed the SLP Y pipe might cost 1/2 inch of clearance at most. The muffler should that did mine was very careful with rotating the pipe for best clearance and did an excellent job. It's never scrapped etc.

The SLP Y might be worth 2rwhp at most on a bolt on type car with stock cats. If you go with shorty headers and aftermarket cats it might be worth a little more on a bolt on car. On cam or heads and cam, or NOS cars it might help a little more maybe 5-8rwhp like SLP claimed.

If you want the flattened part gone, just get a good muffler shop to cut the flattened section out and replace with round pipe. Should only cost about $60 to $75 and will do as much as the SLP Y will on a near stock car.
