Preparing for JET Hot LT Install (advice plz)
Hi guys, I'm really excited about getting in on the Jet Hot LT split payment deal & am eagerly awaiting the UPS guy's knock on the door. While I'm waiting I wanted to ask the people with Hooker LT's what to look out for or to do when installing the headers. I've read thru several posts & from what I read, this is what I already know. If this sounds incorrect please advise me otherwise.
1- Don't use the paper gaskets that come with em. (What brand? Fel-Pro good on LS1's?)
2- An EGR mod? Mine's an 02, no EGR.
Todd @JetHot said the Hooker ORY will work with the headers so that's what I'm going to use for now, until I have a custom one with cats made.
Thanks for any advice you can give me. If anyone has a link to a good write up on a header install that would be great as well. I've looked a bit & haven't had any luck.
As always, thanks for your help! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Since they are designed after the Hookers, I assume install is the same. It's pretty easy. You may want to spray penetrating oil on the bolts that mate the factory Y to the manifolds the day before so they will break loose easier. On the driver side you only have to remove the small oil diverter plate and the steering shaft and the header will slip in from the bottom. The passanger side will go in from the bottom without removing anything that wasn't removed when the factory manifold came out. No need to remove coil packs, ect., that you have to do with other headers. I reused my factory metal manifold gaskets, as have many others. You don't need the egr mod. You will need the block off plates if the headers come with the egr provision. Make sure you are using a small 1/4 inch ratchet on the manifold bolts, especially the rear passanger bolt that you can't even see. I reused the factory bolts. Use anti seize in the spark plugs and manifold bolts. You may want to rent a flaring tool to open the male ends of the Y pipe a little so they will easily slip onto the headers.

If time permits, I'm going to take my time, take digi pics, take notes with my dictaphone & make an install article for my website.

I will, I'll get my buds to help so they can take pics & notes so I don't get grease all over my expensive camera. If anyone is in the Houston area & wants to come chill while I put em on & help out with the beer drinking part of the job, just let me know <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" />

Jegs had some really cool all aluminum gaskets (super soft = nice crush) that I used. They were pretty cheap too. Go look on their site.
I have an 01 and I just made plate to block off the EGR and AIR tubes.
8 hours <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> you were definately taking your time <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[boring]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_zzz.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[boring]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_zzz.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" /> (jk)
You could probubly do it in 2 hours if you and a friend haul ***. My friend Jon and I removed my entire exhaust (manifolds all the way to the muffler), rerouted oil lines, had dinner (pizza in one hand and a wrench in the other <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> ), and installed the headers in about 4 hours (also done on jackstands and ramps). The hardest part for us was getting the damn steering shaft off and then back on <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> .

Re: Preparing for JET Hot LT Install (advice plz)
Thanks for the tip on the gaskets, I wonder if anyone has ever had any problems with them though. I've never used them myself, I've pretty much always stuck to Fel-Pro & never had any. I would think they would work better though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

You may also want to spray penetrating oil on the bolts that attach the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads. Personally, I'd hose all of the exhaust manifold bolts down and let it heat cycle a few times. Next day repeat. Might be over kill but it may make things easier.
SRP used new GM gaskets with my header install. The GM gaskets aren't as sexy as the Felpro's but they work fine. You can order two GM gaskets at the local dealer ship, they are inexpensive. I would not use the crappy papergaskets. I'd reuse the stock ones first.
I wanted locking bolts and think the Stage 8's looked <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> for $29
