I was wondering what kind of gains i would get out of the 'free mods'. Like the TB Bypass, Free Ram Aim (installuniversity.com) and the other free ram air (ls1.com). Stuff like that.
I need about 1/2 a second faster then what i am now i am getting a cut-out to, any info on these will be apprieciated. needed asap.
thanks

A 1/2 sec doesn't sound like much, but it's a LONG TIME as you car gets quicker and quicker AND faster and faster. When you run 12s a 1/2 sec isn't that big a deal, but when you run in the 4s and 5s it's a LIFETIME! To gain a 1/2 sec you need more that a 5 min free bolt on mod. You need to pump more air either on the intake side or the exhaust side. More Air = More Horespower

Don't mod your stock MAF on an A4 car.
The MAF must be calibrated as stock for the transmission computer controls to funtion properly. You can get an aftermarket MAF and be okay as long as it is calibrated for it's increased size.
Some folks say a shift kit will help this problem, but I personally wouldn't take the chance when I could just buy a performance MAF. It's your transmission's life at stake.
Back on subject:
I have a 98.
With a lid (paper filter), muffler (on stock exhaust), and the free mods I pulled 318 rwhp & 334 rwtq. 98s are known for 280 something rwhp stock.
Couple of things I noticed about my free mods:
The TB bypass and free 160 thermostat combined, got rid of my KR and detonation.
(the stat requires a fan mod too, I used the auto fan mod, ~$20)
The FRA gave me much better response and power on the highway. Really noticable in 6th gear cruising.
I didn't really notice anything from the TB bumpstop mod or EGR mod, but would do them again.
I like my Fernco, but would buy the $12 hump hose if I did it again.
Those are the mods I have done. The car is much faster and more responsive than when it was stock.
(no dragster mind you, this is just from a frugal street driver's point of view. I have very little money in my car for what it is)
Good luck
Dave

Descreening, IMO, isn't a bad thing. As soon as I took it off I could hear my exhaust changed sound a lil' deeper at first then quiter.
Only had it off for 2 days still pretty the same as it was when I first took it off. It does seem faster tho, jsut a lil' bit.

I did the airbox cut-out ram air mod, seems to improve speed little bit here and there. I will have to wait to get my two pipes running to it to see how much more air i can get into it.

personally i wouldnt get a new maf, there are many of fast cars running stock descreened one's.
if i were u i would get a lid first, you will be able to tell alot more from that than any of these free mods. just my two cents.

A lid, a cut-out, and a stall should keep you happy for a while. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
Peace,
Craig.

my 98 a4 (basically identical to yours) pulled 294/327 with just a lid and free mods. the free ram air you will DEFINENTLY notice but be sure to reset your pcm after you do it or itll set an ses light. the egr mod and bumpstop mod i didnt notice nor did i really notice descreening the maf but just looking at the screen you can see it flows tons more without it.
