We tried it with open headers.
Then we tried it with a 2.75" into 3" Y-pipe. We droped like 20-30 HP to the ground. It's been awhile so I don't remember the numbers but I do remember the idea.
Then we tried it with MTI's custom built 3" into 4" Y-pipe. It made the exact same power as the open headers.
So, in the case of the smaller Y-pipe I stood to make GREAT gains with dual cuttouts over a single cuttout. But, in the case of the larger Y-pipe I stood to gain zero HP with the dual cuttouts over a single one.

If it's the stock Y with the flat spots, don't worry about them. GM was very careful not to impede flow with those flat spots. That pipe flows just as well as a round pipe.
FWIW,I'm running Hooker LT's to a 3in Y to a 3.5in merge to a 3.5in cutout and thats working just fine.
Cant argue with 122MPH at 3450lbs <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
