Default Jet Hot LT install notes.

I just finished up a set of the new Jet Hot LT's on an 01' SS for a friend of mine. This isn't intended to be negative in any way towards Jet Hot as I appreciate everything they did to bring the headers to market as well as many others do. They didn't fit that well though. Here are the issues we ran into.

1. The need for 02 extenders is still present. The driver side wasn't even close. We had to splice the wires on both sides to make it work. The passenger side might have worked, but since we had to do one side might as well do both.

2. The headers are way too close to the floor at the collectors. The end of the collector was about 1/8th inch from the floor board of the car. We ended up prying down with a large pry bar to allow the Hooker ypipe to attach. We then had to pry the driver side header down over an inch to get the y pipe off the car due to the angle of the header. I got it to work, but what a pain in the butt!

3. The 3rd primary hits the steering shaft bolt. It hit on the top and the bottom. I had to grind the top off leaving just enough to get the socket on and grind all excess off the bottom. These aren't FLP's for god's sake!

4. The header hit the k member HARD on the drivers side. I'm a big guy, and with a pry bar couldn't bend them enough to stop banging the k member. Temp fix was fuel line in between till be can get the car on a lift and get better leverage on the header.

5. After all the redesign, still no 01' and 02' specific headers. Not really a problem just a thought though.

Again, this isn't intended to bash Jet Hot in any way shape, form, or fashion. Just maybe need a little more test fitting and they will be a great set of headers at a great price! Until then, I'm very happy with my Hooker LT purchase instead. Although I did buy them from Jet Hot! Hope this helps some of you guys getting ready to do the install out some. Any others questions anyone has just shoot me an email. Sorry so long.

John

John,
Were the headers Hooker headers that Jet-Hot coated or were they Jet-Hot's own version?

I just helped put a set on my buddies 99 TA this weekend and they went in perfectly. Driver side required the usual, disconnect motor mount, remove fitting above oil filter, jack car off the ground, slide header in. Passenger side, remove starter and slide header right in. We used the Hooker Y pipe with no issues at all. Everything went on perfectly, I was happy with ease of install and the quality of the headers looked great as well. Dyno time will tell if it was all worth it.

Great job Jet Hot.

Yep, thanks to CamminBeast's assistance, the install wasn't too bad. The headers bolted right up to the Hooker Y-pipe, then to a 4" Mufflex. Been driving the car all day, and LOVE IT!!! The only issue I have is that the motor shakes too much with my cam, so the Y-pipe bumps a little at idle. I'll fix that tomorrow. JET HOT, The headers are GREAT!!!

I also just finshed installing Jet-Hot headers on a friend's '01 SS. I had installe dmy Hooker LTs on my driveway, by myself ... as well as another friend with an '01 SS (all there are black ). But this last one, we did it on a lift, it was the worst one yet to install (of the three, not all brands). Jet-Hot's headers IMHO must be manufactured by Hooker, they are identical. The only difference is that the collector are weled in place at 180 degree from Hookers. I prefer Hooker position on the O2 bungs, at least they don't cross over the headers. Jet-Hot should have just rotated them 15-20 degrees on the outside, down. Although my LT and the other's Hooker LTs have not rubbing issues with the K-Member, my buddy with the Jet-Hot's does. Interesting ...

Just got my Jet Hot's yesterday, I hope to have them installed by next week. Has everyone had to use 02 extenders? I thought they weren't needed with these?

i hope mine go in smoothly, however if by chance they do rub the k member, how much of the k can you shave off to eliminate the rubbng and still be structurally safe?

Well, the bumping I heard wasn't from the Y-pipe, it was from the header hitting the K-member at idle (big cam). All I did was take a pry bar, and bent the tube about 1/4" in. I didn't dent the tube, just moved it. Been driving the car two days with no noises, except exhaust note

We can't bend these far enough over. We are going to try to shave a little of the K member and maybe dimple the tube if we have to.

How long do the O2 extensions need to be? I'll go ahead and order those along with the simms.
Thanks

I spliced in wires to extend the O2's myself. It took approx 2 ft. on the driver's side and 1 ft. on the passenger side.
