Oval exhaust, true duals. Anyone try this yet?
I'd like to see some pics. I have been thinking about this for over a year now. If I knew how to weld, I would have done it already.
I'm thinking that because of the clearance issue on our cars (mine is lowered), that the duals would be the way to go. I have scrapes on my X-pipe and in various spots on my true duals. I would like to eliminate this. I'm thinking of a pipe that is no more than 2", but in oval & flows the eqv. of a 3" pipe.
Please direct me to some metal fabricating sites that will educate me on metal fab. I'm gonna learn how to weld this year. Thanks.

Shorter answer is that nobody is running it unless they have the Spintech oval tubing... problem has been that you need buy their oval-to-round and round-to-oval transition pieces too and nobody has wanted to spend several hundos just on tubing, including a $200 x-pipe piece.
I have 'ovalized' 3" pipe, it was ovalized by Billingsley Racing a few years ago... I think that 2" height oval could work really well. For dual exhaust ideas check out www.ls1speed.com 's shop car...

What I thought of was starting with mandrel bends, getting the shape that I need with a 2" pipe. Then using a plazma cutter to slit cut it down the center. Use nails tack welded the propper distance apart, just to hold the shape, while it is held over flat metal, traced out, and then welded in. I would need the oval to round, but there is a metal fab place near here that I am sure can make those up for me, cheap. They mostly do heating ducts, but they work with heavier metals also, and this is simply oval ducting. Looks like I'm gonna be on my own for this one.

I'm thinking about doing some prototyping on this general idea (using oval tube).

Slit, and weld like 50-100 linear feet
(4 passes per pipe, 2 pipes, 10 feet per
side)? Sounds like insanity to me. Much
better to find someone who can roll a
couple of flats onto some 3", then you
only have to screw with the joints.
