Default Any way to clean MAF wires?

Keep getting the P0101 code. I would like to try and see if cleaning the wires would help any. Anyone ever done this? Contact cleaner?

I know that you can not clean them with a soft cloth without breaking them. Ouch.

I guess that electrical contact cleaner is about as harsh as you could go, but I think that the wires should heat up to a fairly high heat every time the engine is shut off, but it isn't up to red hot hot so there is no visible cue, which is intended to clean the wires off.

Maybe your wires are not heating up?? Something else to check out.

I clean the MAF wires every once in a while....I take a few Q-tips and soak em briefly in a little bit of alcohol and carefully clean the wires very gently using a clean Q-tip for every wire....I also clean the horizontal thin bars that run across the MAF the same way....using a clean Q-tip every time ......Be careful.....you have to be very gentle....having small hands would help......but be careful!!!!!.......!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks guys. I'll try the alcohol trick tonight. Hope it fixes the damn P0101 code. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

Does this tend to make your idle surge a little? I noticed my car (M6) was hunting for a good idle the other day from 400-800rpms and almost stalled a few times when I came to a stop. Not sure if it is due to all the salt they've been putting on the roads lately... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

5 HP from a can of carb cleaner. Now that's getting you moneys worth. Who needs bolt-ons when you can just use carb cleaner. I'm in.

With carcb cleaner???.....did they let wires dry naturally or what did they dry them off with....But isn't that a type of oil....suppose you spray it...then what....won't there be a filmy oil residue afterwards.....remember,that's how the mafs get dirty....due to the overoiling of the filters therefore not letting the MAF measure the air correctly.....you may be right...I just never heard of that though....But you'd have to be very careful drying the delicate little wires............could work though!!

yeah they let it dry by the air which it did real quick. the guy at the dyno didnt hold the spray nozzle real close so it wouldnt hurt the little wires w/ the pressure(about a foot away. I was a little unsure about it when he did it on the first car and thought it to be a fluke but then the same results on the second. I 'm gonna give it a shot next time I go up.

What code is that? low MAF failure? If so, then check your engine sensor fuse. I had that code all last summer and I cleaned my MAF, swapped them out with a new one, and still had it.

Get some electronic cleaner. Something that won't leave a film or cause corrision. I use CRC QD Electronic Cleaner and it works good. Comes in a spray can. Just spray it on and it will air dry quickly without worrying about bending your tiny wires. You can get it at auto supply stores.

Thanks Larry. I've checked the eng sens fuse and it was fine. Checked the connectors, and they were good. Will post back up if the cleaner doesn't work.
