Default EGR and Air...if u deleted it inside

i was plannig on getting rid of the EGR and Air onmy car when i put the motor back in. i was wonderin though, how much of a pain is it to do and what all do you have to get rid of?

You'll get the SES light from both of those mods. I've heard from 2 ppl that the code for the air will remove itself from the puter after awhile, aprx 8 months for one guy.

I'm working on a resistor fix for the air but haven't had much luck yet. There are 2 harnesses on it and one is a 3 wire

You'll of course need block-off plates.

Simple removal. Remove the AIR fittings from the headers and install block-off plates. Follow the thick black hoses that run from the passenger side of the car toward the firewall (they have the metal couplers on them) and pop the hoses out of the retainer clips behind the manifold. Keep following the thick hose to the driver side of the car and remove the flange and hose from that side, which will eventually drop toward the front of the car past the front left tire. You'll need to remove the plastic "door" underneath the car (as if you were going to change a turn signal) and you'll see the hose connceted to the AIR pump. Remove the bolts (10MM, I think) and unplug the two plugs from the unit. That's it! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

If or when removal throws a code, does it pull timing or affect performance? Most likely mine is coming off & I want to know what to expect until I get some other mods done so I can get it all tuned at once.

It doesnt affect performance or anything. Youll lose 8.5 lbs too. I weighd it.

removing the air system should not throw codes? i remember when a check valve went out and the air pump died my car threw multiple codes...

i have an 02. i am doing a header install tonight, but if i can remove the air system and not throw codes then i would rather do that. has anyone removed the air system without throwing codes?

Hey guys correct me if I'm wrong, but that link suggests that RTV sealant is used for the block off plates. Doesn't RTV screw up the 02's??

just get a set of gaskets to put inbetween the block off plates and the headers. they dont cost that much...

Ok, i've read all the instructions, what about the part of the air system that is bolted to the back of the driverside head area? do we take that out, or is that left in?

It`s been a little while since I yanked that stuff out of there but if remember correctly, that plastic diaphram/check valve was mounted on a small metal tang. I believe I just popped it off the tang and left the bracket in place because I couldn`t get a wrench back there to remove it. Then I just worked that hose that runs along the back of the motor out. Sorry about the lack of detail but like I said it was a while ago. Hope this helps.
