QTP Catalytic Y Pipe Info and Pics
I am coming out with a Cat Y pipe for my QTP Headers and Hooker/JetHot Header.
I want show what I have been up to so far. I have 3 cats that i plan on testing. I am going to JPR next week to have them flow benched to see the difference between them
Here are the contenders:
Random Tech 3" Standard Cat Small Body
Random Tech 3" High Flow Bullet(Metallic) Cat
Catco 3"
Now i would like some input here. The Catco cat is like half the price of the standard Random Tech cat. If it flows close to the random, what would you choose? Would you not buy the catco becuase it doesnt have the name of random?
Some other info. The catco is not as tall as the random. Helps with ground clearance and body clearance.
I will probably offer all 3 types of cats to begin with. After they are flowed i will update this post with the flow numbers.
Each one works with my Y pipe with no problems. Just have to test fit them in the jig for easier production.
Once again this y pipe will fit QTP/Hooker/Jethot Headers. If anyone asks there is no room for dual cutouts and cats in the y pipe.
Expected Pricing:
Y Pipe w/catco $450-500
Y Pipe w/standard R/T $650-700
Y Pipe w/high flow R/T $800-850
Price might be on the high or low side that is listed. All depends on the getting them fitted in the jig.
I am also thinking about offering are extra off road pipes to swap in and out. It wont be a easy switch but can be done for inspection time.

Any input is apprecitated. This is where you help to make prototype into product.

I think it should be an option. Different people are gona want different things. If you dont use all 3 at least use the highest priced and lowest priced cats. Your gona have the group of people that are willing to sacrifice a lil performance for a cheaper price, and thoes that will pay the price for the best regaurdless.
Hope my two cents helps

Barry,
Got my new y-pipe and electric cutouts. I'm up for inspection in about 18 months, so I'll be ordering a set of these in the future.
Thanks for the awesome customer service and products.

I'd personally favor the highest flowing cat, followed by whatever would give the most ground clearance. Oh, do your QTP's have ball-flange fittings? The set I got from Roger has 'em, and I tend to like that style of fitting.

Personally, I have had great results with catco in the past with my truck, and you can't beat the price. Keep in mind, most parts out there for the LS1 are waaayyy overpriced, especially if you are a poor college student such as myself....however, I like the idea of finding a shorter cat, and trying to fit dual cutouts, thus eliminating the need of having an interchangeable y-pipe....I PMed you earlier about the fittiment of the cutouts, and the new y-pipe, and as you said, it would not fit... but as I said earlier, maybe it's possible I know I'm dreaming...
I mean, if it won't fit, it won't fit, but the benefit (to me) would be that you could get both extremes in sound without having to get under the car to replace cats with ORPs...If a cop pulls me over for sound....just a flick of the switch on your electric cutouts...."Yes sir officer running a complete emissions legal exhaust!" Anyway, thanks atleast for making a cat Y, for those that want to stay legal! (or have to be )

Why cutouts before cats wont work:
You need at least 12-18" from the collector to the cutout. You dont want outside air effecting o2 readings.
Running a cutout before the cat would be like running with out a cat if you got pulled over. It would be illegal if you can bypass the cat.
Call me if you want me to go into detail over this.

Should have these ready in about 2-3 weeks. Just want to flow those cats first. But 2ft of snow is slowing me down
I have another question, sort of a dumb question, but just need some clarification, im sure anyone can answer this. I have LT headers with an ORY now. I didnt buy O2 sims, so my SES light is on. If i were to get one of these y-pipes, can I plug the O2 wires back into the y-pipe, and have them function properly? I ask, 1.,because i dont know if you mentioned the y-pipe having bungs for those snesors, and 2., because it seems that I had read somewhere that the SES light might still come one with aftermarket cats.
TIA
TIA
The standard Random Techs were on my grots years ago and only gave up 5 rwhp on a 400+ rwhp car. They will probably be your best compromise of flow, price and ground clearance.
Well for me being up here in the Northeast it is all about having cats come state inspection time first, and excellent performance at the strip with the N20!
So which ever set-up will gain me the most performance and get me a sticker is what I will buy!
I am so ready to get rid of my stock manifolds and cats right now!
