Default Removing the Air Condition System..

..it's pretty straight forward to unbolt the system, but where do I release the pressure from and do I need a delete pulley? thanks and any other advice would be good;

No, I would just cut the belt and take off the compressor, thats a good amount of weight...

Just release the system by taking off one of the caps and pusing one of the little tabs...

Will you get any SES lights or anything if you remove the system? I see that there is a plug in one of the lines near the firewall.

Venting R134a is ILLEGAL and you could be fined up to $10,000 by the EPA. R134a does not deplete the ozone which is why you can buy it at Wal MArt which leads to the belief that it is not illegal to vent, however, it DOES contribute to global warming and that is why the EPA has made it illegal to vent. If anyone sees you doing it they can turn you in and collect the $10k, so gimme a call when you are ready and I'll come over, I could use a good short block ARE or MTI stroker. I'm not trying to be an ars, but its a fact. I am EPA certified Section 608 and 609 so thats how I know.

Forgot to tell you this too, If you unscrew the cap and just push in the schrader valve, if the refrigerant comes out condensed enough to be in liquid form and it touches any part of your skin, you will have SEVERE injuries. In liquid form that stuff is well below -100 degrees F. If you are bent on taking it off, just go to your local shop and have them put a good vacuum on it for about 20-30 minutes. It will 1. Keep you from being fined and 2. May save you from serious injury or even death. If you were to inhale it in liquid form, your lungs would freeze instanly and you would DIE. Dont you have problems with your windows fogging during rain? The A/C system removes moisture from the interior to combat windsheild fogging. You may have fogging problems if you do take it out. As I said though, if you do, just go have it vacuumed down and it will be perfectly safe. It should be less than $30 to do it the safe way.

Just hold a rag over the valve and push in with an allen wrench.You won't hurt yourself nobody will come and arrest you and I really think the earth will survive.

Yes let's all do it this way because we know every automobile owner discharges their own AC.Certainly not just a handful of Ls1 owners trying to save $40.God save us!

I agree with going to a shop to discharge it,but I'f you do it yourself just loosen the bolt on the canister and let it spray out.That way you can walk away while it's going.

Just last week I removed my AC. I unbolted one of the metal tubes and vented it.

But to protect the ozone I got real close and breathed in all of the R134a as is vented out. This way I used my lungs a filter to protect the earth from these harmful gases

JK

I put a rag around the tube and cracked it open a little, if you open it too much this **** comes out in liquid form. You can't miss it, its a really cool bright green color, or mine was anyway. Use a rag so if it sprays it won't get on you engine parts. Have fun!

what up a bunch of ignorant people, I am not a tree hugger nor am I concerned wether or not you get caught. I was simply trying to state the fact that it COULD happen and injury COULD result. But you all appear that safety is a joke to you and just reply with smart *** answers. Whatever, do it, chances are you WONT get caught and if you are careful enough you WONT get hurt either. But now, I'll take being banned from this board to tell all you smart *** people to go **** YOURSELF!

Besides, my main concern was someone getting hurt. My instructor told us some pretty nasty horror stories about people messing with that stuff not aware of the consequences. I would just hate to see that if it could be avoided and a safer alternative was available.
Safety, safety, it's the safe safe way to be, think safety Billy
