umm I am not sure if our cars have one but a filter more than likely is going to be on the suction like coming into the compressor. So check down by the compressor. It will by a round thing kind of shaped like a fuel filter.

If you had your system open to atmospheric for a very long period of time you will want to replace the accumulator also. That is meant to hold moisture and they dont hold very much so if it got soaked with moisture out of the air then it may not catch the water in the system if there is any and any little bit of moisture in your compressor will tear it up very shortly and then you will be looking at a new compressor. Hope this helps ya out.

as far as i know the reciever/drier functions as a somewhat of a filter for our cars. They are a one time use item though, so you'll have to get a new one... Im in the middle of a similar project myself... damn a/c...

but the cool air feels so good....

the orfice tube also has a filer screen on it.

you should probably have the system flushed, and then refilled, just to be safe.

Thanks for the help. A/c is a pain. I have a friend that was going to get all the air out then refill with freon and recharge.

It's been sitting for 3 months.\

Hey did you change the screen on the oriface tube? Thanks

Maybe you can stop by and show me what the hell I need to do. And i'll show you how to hook up a trans cooler

The line going into the firewall that has a sensor/wire connected to it is the "liquid line", which runs from the condenser to the evaporator. If you unbolt it from the evaporator and the condenser, then look down inside it from the evap side, you'll see a + sign looking thing. Grab it with some needle nose and pull it out. This is your "orifice tube", get a new one for $2.50 and jam it in there.

Install new filter plus sign looking thingie in the orafice tube
get the air out of a/c
fill with freon
charge

My buddy has all the equipment. Does this sound good? Do I need new o rings?

Yes this sounds good. The new line probably comes with new o-rings for the connections, but the stockers are ok if it doesn't. I like to dab a little oil on mine before bolting things up in order to make them slide into place easier and without tearing.

Filling with freon = charging btw.

You'll need about 1.5lbs of 134a if you've lost your stock lid, this is where the information is located.

Will it be a problem if moisture got into the system? Do I need to get a new accumulator like posted way above?

That doesn't look like any LS1 Camaro system I've seen.

I wouldn't worry too much about the accumulator either, just pull a vacuum on it and let it pull down for a while (45 minutes or so, longer the better), all the moisture will boil off at low pressures and probably be exhausted by the vacuum pump.
