Is your floor mat under the pedal? Sounds simple, but you'd be suprised.
Did you use your stock cable cam and shaft assembly? The 98-99's have a different cam than the 00-02's.

The shaft/cam slides out and you slide the new one in and re-assemble. Use some blue loctite on the blade screws when you put it back together. You'll need some Torx head stuff to take it apart too. I got a little blue case from Advance Auto that was about $5 which has every freaking torx/allen/screw (philips/flat)/adapter you can want. I get a TREMENDOUS amount of use out of it.

Note that a small washer looking piece will come out with the sensor, just remember how it goes back in. You should also check out how the return spring winds up to make it easier on the re-assembly.
