Default Comparison of mufflers for true duals

Ok, I'm trying to decide which mufflers I can add to my car to keep it as quiet as possible with true duals.

Has anyone tried using these mufflers?

And if you're wondering, the x pipe I'm going to use is:

Thanks for your opinions on the mufflers. I'd love to hear if you have them, or have heard them on a LS1.

BTW, the goal is to have little interior noise as well. I am probably going to add cats too.

I just got my true dual over the axle and out the back on my 99 TA with no/cats. I used 18 inch FloPro Twister mufflers. It is very quiet at idle and while cruising down the road. I should know I had a 3 hour trip home after getting the whole setup installed to think about it. I am very very happy with the sound and extremely suprised at how quiet it is. It does get a little loud when you get on it.. but that is what I wanted. Just remember that these are going out the back of the car. I have hooker long tubes and no internal mods. I hope this helps you out some.

I'd like to know how u did ur true duals out the back over the axle. I haven't heard of anyone doing this because of the limited space for dual pipes. if u could, please post pics. this is what I want on my 98 Z. I was thinking of doing the dumpoffs before the axle but for me it'll be too loud cuz my car is a daily driver. u can either post them on here or e-mail me or PM. but please let me know about it. thanks.

Look at the thickness of all the muflers you have listed. 2 are 4.5", and one is 4". You should also consider the width. The only one there I would consider is the spiral, vecause of it's compactness.

I had the bullets on my car, and got tired of it being so loud, not being able to hold a conversation, and not being able to hear the radio. I switched to the Edelbrock RPM mufler, to quiet it way down.

The reason I settled on the RPM is because it is compact, only 7" wide, and 3.60" thick. What I ended up with was a great sound, better than I thought it would be. It didn't quiet it down as much as I thought it would, but way better that the bullets. I left it to where I can switch easily to the bullets, if needed. My next step, if I want it quieter, is to add some cats, with electronic cutouts before them.

I think that the RPM's with cats, will give you exactly what you want. Add some cutouts in front on the cats, for those times when you want max power.

In my sig, there is a link some pics and videos, the video of the 10.68 run has sound and is with full exhaust w/ the Edelbrock muflers. Good luck.

I had a pair of 3" Moroso spiral-flow mufflers on my car awhile back. They sounded pretty good, but are not quiet by any means.

An X-pipe would probably tame the sound down some, but they're still pretty damn loud.

If you want quiet, than the Magnaflows are the way to go. With cats and Magnaflows the car will sound almost like stock (If you still have stock exhaust manifolds). Headers will make it a little louder. I have heard a car with Hooker headers, Car Sound cats, 2.5" X-pipe, and 18" Magnaflows. It sounded almost stock to me in terms of loudness. The Moroso spiral-flow mufflers will not make it any quieter than Dynomax bullets, just sound different. They are loud. The Borla XR-1 are about 30% quiter than bullets but louder than the Magnaflows. But the Magnaflows are the quietest mufflers I have heard, plus they flow really well. You'll loose maybe 2-4 HP over the bullets. Well there's my 2 cents. Later

I don't know why ur car was so loud when u had Bullet mufflers. I have one on my car, with the exhaust going out stock location, and I love it. It's quiet on the Highway, around town.......till u get on it!!! I have been told, when I race someone, that they cannot hear when to shift cuz my exhaust is so loud in the back. believe me it sounds AWSOME and I love it. I still have stock manifolds and cats. sometimes, puttin around town, it's too quiet for me. but believe me, when u get on it everyone will hear u.

Yes i agree with George a x will lower the sound 2 to 6 db.it doesn't matter of the size as long as it is a x an h will lower the sound also but in my experience the x has always worked better.

My car was too loud with the bullets, because my setup was totally different than yours. Headers, 3" duals through X-pipe. No cats. Head & cam, with a loose convertor, and everyone hears you just pulling away from a stop light. I thought it was cool at first, but I'm not 17 anymore.

The X-pipe will tone it down a bit, but not much.

The bullets are loud but alot of people think just because you have true duals your car will be to loud this is not the case it all depends on the mufflers and where the tailpipes are.I have heard several true dual setups that were very tame and they even turned down infront of the rear axle.

These are the Magnaflows I was talking about. Sorry for not being specific. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universal/round.htm The 4" round mufflers will fit. They might be a little tight, but they will fit. If you get these, be sure you wrap your fuel lines with some kind of heat resistant tape just to be safe. I was going to put these on my car at first, but the sweet sound of the bullets made me change my mind. I love the sound at WOT, nothing else like it. Anyway, these Magnaflow mufflers are very quiet. Hope this clears things up.

bo0oost, I'm guessing from your comment that your wanting 3" pipes. Why don't you just go with 2.5". 3" pipes will actually make the exhaust sound a little louder than with 2.5". You'll have more ground clearance over the 3" too. In my opinion 3" tubes are two big for a true dual setup. You'll make more torque with a 2.5" setup over a 3" setup and make just about the same horsepower. If you've already bought the 3" X-pipe and tubing, you don't have many options on quiet mufflers. Some companies don't make their quieter mufflers larger than 2.5" in/out. You really can't fit anything bigger than the Borla XR-1 without have them hang low or banging in the floor board. Most mufflers you find that have 3" inlets are going to be big in diameter. If you do find a muffler that has 3" inlets and has a small diameter like 4", it's not going to muffle much. And another thing, if it's called a race muffler, it's going to be loud.
