Default Quick LS6 intake swap Q.

Approximately how long should it take one to remove the original LS1 intake and swap an LS6 in using the LS1howto guide?

I'm considering installing mine today and wondering if I'll have enough daylight. Should I have a friend help out? Any additional tips&tricks? Thanks!

its not difficult, just follow the instructions and seeing as its your first time doing an intake swap. i imagine it will take 7 or 8 hours b/c your gonna be cautious and careful not to break anything, one good piece of advice that everyone else who installed a LS6 intake will tell you disconnect the brake booster hose before you start to remove the intake and push the hose up towards the cowl of the windsheild to keep it from breaking the Oil Pressure Sending Unit.

7 or 8 hours? I was thinking somewhere around 1-2. And That's one thing - Exactly where is the brake booster hose? I viewed the picture from ls1howto and can't seem to figure which hose he's pointing out.

Also, Do I need an EGR block off plate to complete the install? I ordered supposedly "everything" I needed to do the install from ts&p. I'm still unsure of this situation.

I helped a buddy do his in about 3 hours? He had already started by the time I got there, and neither of us had done it before. Brake booster hose is in the pic I thought? Need to be careful of the oil pressure sensor too. Rule of thumb - if it doesn't come out easily something's still connected at the rear of the intake. And yes, you need an EGR block off plate, coolant pipe/plugs, and new intake gaskets if you don't already have them.

well i was just guessing at the install time, but some guys can do it in 2-3 hours some take longer it all depends on your knowledge and ability to work on these engines. the brake booster hose is the hose that goes into that big cylinder looking thing on the drivers side firewall.

No way to guess on the time, just allow yourself plenty of it or you'll make mistakes that could be costly.

Find the big *** black brake booster, which is behind the brake reservior, then follow that hose coming out it to the back of the manifold. Right before you get there you'll feel the oil pressure sending unit poking up with that hose running around it.

If you're deleting the EGR system, you'll need blockoff plates for the manifolds/headers, which I doubt the LS6 comes with from TSP.

What other mods does the car have?

Put aside a day to do it. Then if it takes less time, you can have a beer or two to celebrate.

Yes be careful of that sending unit, it is a $60 piece and it is not fun to break as i was replacing my Camshaft sensor and ended up breaking the oil pressure thing.

not true it was only 32 from the local chevy dealers here but they had to order it and I did disconect the brake booster hose and still broke it. Took me and a friend about 1.5-2 hours to get apart and took me about 1-1.5 hours to get back togethor alone going slow and checking everything the whole time

So when I purchased this intake, I didn't take into consideration the EGR issue. Or I should say lack thereof. So, are there ways to delete the EGR system, but making it undetectable by a mechanic? Just using some block off plate's seems sketchy to me. It seems unfair that 2000's were the only year with egr.

the 98-00 had egr. Id set aside a little more time than a little less, this is not a race to see who can take off and put on intake manifolds the fastest. I think it took a little over 4 hours for mine. Took it off one day than put on the ls6 the next. Didnt break the oil pressure unit but did break the map sensor. I also broke one of the coolant pipe studs from overtorquing it, luckily it had enough sticking out for me to get a gator grip on it to take it out. anyway its not that hard a swap, just take your time expect some nice battle scars on your arms thanks to the cowl.

the brake booster is the big, black saucer shaped thing against the firewall in the back right of the engine pay. there's a big, black inch-thick vacuum line coming out of it. it's a pretty thick hose. you'll find it.

Can swap on my car in less than 1 hour. But then again, I don't have a whole lot of the original crap on top my engine:

I have a quick question about after the install. Im gonna be removing the egr at the same time as my LS6 install(still waiting for throttle from new era) will my car be ok to test ride after the install without any block offs on the egr, will be doing the Race headers bout a week later.
