Mine went out at 79k. It was due to a weak battery. At 7 years I still had the original battery in my car and it wasn't putting out like it should and the alt went out trying to take up the slack.
Indications were a low voltmeter (9-11 volts). Once the alt goes and your running on battery the car may shut down unessential systems to keep you on the road. Traction control, A/C, ABS will all turn off when you're reaching the end.
