best headers- power vs $$$

best headers- power vs $$$ Headers are my next upgrade but I would like to find one with the most bang for my buck. I don't mind spending some cash I just want quaility. Please steer me away from poor fitting or problem brands. I know nothing about headers. Long tube or short and why? Any answers will be helpful.

Re: best headers- power vs $$$ QTP headers, even though they are more expensive then others, you can't beat their stainless steel style, therefore you don't have to worry about rusting.....Also nice to mention they fit perfectly

I stripped the HTS coating off, sprayed Eastwood silver header coating and after 7 months it's still holding up.

Re: best headers- power vs $$$ MAC's are probably the best bang for the buck out there... simply because they seem to be better than other mid-lengths, yet don't cost as much as a set of long-tubes.
If you're looking for bang for the buck out of LT's, IMO, you can't go wrong with Dynatech. You have to buy the collectors seperately, but a set of coated LT's/collectors for ~$550 isn't bad at all. Of course, you're on your own when it comes to the Y-pipe; but from what I have seen of most of the common Y-pipes, that's a good thing. Most of the Y-pipes that ship with our headers are complete ****. Either they are small diameter tubing (2.5" in some cases), have some severe bends (greater than 90*), have flanges in some really inconvenient places, or the actual "Y" it's self is pathetic (some of them "neck down" to a smaller ID, then re-expand to 3" to meet the cat-back; others would be more appropriately called "T-pipes" instead of Y-pipes).
When I get my setup installed and the Y-pipe fabricated, I'll try to post some pics... should be ~1 month.

Re: best headers- power vs $$$ For those who don't already know. We build our headers in stainless and mild steel. The best combination for optimum performance and longevity is a combination of stainless steel with black ceramic coating on the outside only. Not too many people know this but when you've been building custom headers for over 40 years you learn a few things. Unfortunately not many want to spend for this type of header because of the high cost. If your going to go thru the trouble of installing headers on your car,don't waste your time with anything other than long tubes, especially when their designed and built to give you the best of all worlds. Quality fit, superior performance, more than ample ground clearance. Nick "Kook's Headers"
