why do you need o2 sims?

why do you need o2 sims? thinking about ordering some headers and i understand that you need o2 extensions becuase the headers sit back further. but do i really need o2 sims? i heard that they clear the SES light from coming on, but other than that, will it affect my car in any negative way? becuase im not really worried about having my engine light on. or will it affect my A/F ratio as well???

02 sims just keep the light off, rear 02 codes don't affect performance - probably cheaper to pay a shop (or get someone) to turn the codes off. I wouldn't want my SES on constantly - just in case something else is going on.

thats cool, my friend has HP tuners and i believe he can delete the codes for me then. im just worried it will affect my performance or a/f ratio and kill my HP/tq

As long as he doesn't touch the front O2's you will be fine. The back ones just monitor catalytic convertor efficiency.

Like the other guys said, have them turned off via a tune, don't waste the money on the SIMS.
I have no o2 sims. They were turned off completely in my tune. The headers should come with the extensions i believe mine did. As others have said, just delete the codes out for the rear o2's. I even took mine off the car.
