Default NO Cats, Regrets?

Im about to buy some kooks headers, and i'm leaning toward an ory. I figure if i didn't like the sound, I'd get some cats welded in later. I have Gmmg catback right now so that might help you, help me decide which way to go.

So my question is has anyone bought an ory and then later put a bullet or cats on it becuase they disliked the sound. and if so what kind did you go with.

thanks,
michael

Well, everything I've read says Cats+GMMG = . ORY+GMMG=

I just installed my Kooks+Stainlees Steel Catted Y onto my GMMG and it is LOUD. I can't imagine with an ORY. It seems a little on the raspy side right now. I have the "new" design Magnaflow cats, so these may flow a little better straight thru.

I've been thinking about a bullet, but I've only had my headers on for 5 days now. I'm going to let things pan out. I can't say I've seen Kooks+ORY+Bullet+GMMG. There may be something in that. I've always seen bullets with cats. Good luck.

I only really regret the smell, like if im sitting at a stoplight with the A/C on, it isnt too great. Other than that, maybe the thought of getting caught, and the fine that comes with it. I'll probably be going with cats whenever i get a new exhaust setup.

I have a catted y and it sounds good and loud, just ask the local cops. I have heard also that GMMG without cats doesn't sound that good. maybe someone will post up otherwise and can shed some light on this situation.

GMMG sounds good period. Cammed makes or breaks it.

Stock manifolds/cats + Loudmouth: Good
Longtubes/no cats + Loudmouth: Bad
Longtubes/no cats + duals: Great.
Longtubes/no cats/big cam/duals: AWSOME

That has been my experience.

Buddies SS had H/C LTs ORY GMMG and it was really raw and very raspy. I've switched to HF cats as it really cleans up the sound and takes away the raw fuel smell. The only catback to sound decent with LTs and ORY was my stock SLP Dual Dual muffler, although it had quality build issues and was scrapped after it blew all the ceramic packing material out the tips.

Yeah my heavy cammed Firehawk had Hookers,ORY and the factory SLP DD and it sounded mellow (mature) cruising around and it really had a clean scream going up through the rpm range.

Now it's got Twin Turbos, huge cam, ORY, and the SLP DD. I'm gonna fire it up this weekend... should be nice.

You must not have ever had Hooker. My Hooker Aerochamber sounds great with Pacesetter LT's & TSP ORY.

Just on a basic note: is there any advantage to have or not have by Taking the Cats OFF the car completley and just going with a dual exhaust with no cats?.. Other than emmisions standards suffering wouldnt the performance be better.?..Sorry for my newbieness... Russ..

of coarse. Any true dual system should add a good amount of power. The cats do hinder some things but if you live somewhere with testing, you can get high flow cats.

I have P/S LT, ORY and Flowmaster cat back, its definitly loud which was what i was going for. You can always weld in cats, but without them it will be much louder. Just experiment a little and see what works for you. I do have to say that of the gmmg exhaust ive heard w/o cats did not sound very good, to raspy.

It's a little stinky. I'd never do it again, next time I will just spend the money to get nice high flow cats.

You can add Hooker and Magnaflow to that list. There are others I am sure, but these three seem to do the best at high flow and low noise, as well as low rasp.
