Default terrable resonance after duals...

what could i do to fix the resonance? i turned my TD's to 45* and it fixed all the viberation but not the resonance. would switching mufflers fix it b/c i was thinking of switching out my ST mufflers for some one chambers. will theflowmasters be just as loud and snarly at the ST's on the outside?

thanks, ryan

I had my ST's dumped before I ran them out the back and I never had resonance problems.....just too damn loud inside the car. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I am trying to figure out what is causing your resonance.

just having dumped causes the resonance i would thing.... my buddy has a mach 1 and is running pipes dumped right before the axle not bent anywhere just like straigh and it resonates to beat hell... so i would think it was just beucase it was coming out from under the car and bouncing off the ground and back up into your cab

i dunno, it just does it around 1600-1800 rpm then it goes away, its almost like their is a honda in my back seat. sorta almost sounds like a viberation but it is loud as hell, loud enuff to hurt my ears anyways. ive shot guns all my life and this is soo loud it, drives me crazy.

Find out what it is that is resonating. It may not be the exhaust. Anything loose in your car could be the cause. Loose trim panels, that flap over the trunk, etc.

resonating is caused when the two exhaust pipes vibrate at the same frequency, so the only way to truely get rid of it would be to have a single outlet exhaust

Depends on what is resonating.

Thats weird, i have ST on my TSP duals and i turned them almost sideways. They sound great and i have no resonance like you describe. I'm gonna say that something is bibrating in your car cuasing the resonance.

it does almost sound like something is viberating. today when it started doin it i reached back and felt the floor/tunel where the back seats use to be and it was voberating like a *****. you think it would have anything to do with how i have the hangers mounted? i also might try turning them to the side like you say and see if that helps.
one more thing, does yours have a snarling sound to it or am i hearing an exhaust leak?
either way it sounds awesome.

Almost all exhaust systems (single or dual) dumped under the car will have interior resonance. Turning the outlets 45 degrees will help but not eliminate it. The only way to get rid of it is to run it out the back. Sound waves are bouncing between the road and the body of the car causing the sound you hear. My car has some interior resonance from about 1600-1900rpm with flowmaster 1 chambers dumped and outlets turned 45 degrees. My old y-pipe setup with dumped cutout did the same thing at the same rpm. Just keep your foot in it and stay above the rpms that resonate!!

Yes, dumped exhaust is going to make stuff resonate. The trick is finding what it is that is causing the annoying resonation. Get a buddy in the car and have him move around listening for where the rattle is coming from. If it's an interior rattle, you might be able to tie it down. If it's exterior, then you'll have to mess with hangers and stuff.

Good luck!

your hanger placement could be an issue as well. And dont be afraid of the snarl. It's the way a true dual setup sounds. Now if you had ticking, then i would say it's an exhaust leak.
