Default question about your !pcv (people runnin breathers)

just deleted the pcv off of two cars today, left the line connecting the two valve covers. Just curious if you guys that have done this have had issues with smoke coming out of your breather (not alot) just a tiny steady stream of barely noticable smoke (oil vapor) Both cars do the same thing, one has a cam and one does not

I capped off all hose points and put a breather on each valve cover. I wouldn't worry about the vapor. It's for the first few days.

Default Pcv Removal

System is set up as a closed system. You will now probably notice a 2 to 3 MPG drop in gas mileage, with no gain in HP or ET . Also increased oil consumption. Take it or leave it.

Increased oil consumption with a breather? That's new to me!

I run a breather now and it puffs out some smoke too, nothing to worry about. Make sure you change your oil every 3k on the dot if you're running a breather.

Why would there be a drop in MPG?

Umm I think you have it backwards. People convert to the breathers to eliminate the oil consumption that the ctock PCV system causes. Otherwise it would be a pointless conversion.

I also don't understand how you're going to lose fuel economy by switching to breathers, all the PCV does is take the crankcase vapors out of the engine and recirculate them to burn during the combustion cycle. So unless oil vapors have some kind of magical properties that make them burn like rocket fuel, I don't see how there would be a difference in fuel economy

no decrease in gas mileage and no increase in oil consumption on my 408 when i switched over to a breather.

The smoke/oil vapor puffing out is normal.

I have noticed my oil consumption about cut in half. Recently i used a little over 1/2 qt in about 700 miles... From about a 1 quart every 700-900 miles...

What this person just said is 100% crap. You will not see a decrease in gas mileage, you will not see any gain or loss of HP, and you will see reduced oil consumption.

This guy needs to put the crack pipe down.

I have eliminated my breathers. No problems, I dont see how it would affect gas mileage. I drilled a hole in a oil cap and slapped a breather in there and put a breather on the end of my pcv line like 12 inches of plastic tubing is all it is. I would recommend this over an oil catch can any day and esp spending money on an ls6 conversion (valley).

Has anyone had condensation build up at or under breather? smoke coming out of the breather and no PCV I would think condensation would build up, just a guess though.
