Default Hooker Catback took a ****

Well I after almost 3yrs my hooker catback just took a ****. The element inside the muffler is torn up or sumthing because all you hear is this rattling from 1.5-2.5k rpm. Its pretty annoying cuz I hear it everytime I take off from a stand still. Would running without cats cause that? If it did what catback do you all recommend, sumthing cheap would be best. Could I possibly just replace the muffler rather than the whole catback? Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

same thing happened to my pile of **** Hooker catback. i've heard of this happening a lot so i'm not why everyone is so high and mighty on them. i just put on a stainless steel Magnaflow catback. similar tone, just a tad louder... sounds great.

Dont get me wrong the hooker was great while it worked, I didnt expect it to take a **** after 40k miles thats all.......It seems to be true when some say you trade performance over relaibility.
**** I want a magnaflow, I wonder what would happen if I ask them down at the shop to cut out the hooker muffler and install a magnaflow? Ive heard magnaflow has a lifetime warranty.

BLKBIRD if i were you I would buy anything that says lifetime warranty BUDDY!!!!

40k miles isn't bad IMO
like it was said, just get another muffler and see you in 40k miles.

i wasn't impressed with my hooker catback at all, the fitment was horrible and it rusted in three months. I will NEVER buy another cheapo catback, you pay for what you get.

Whatever is inside the muffler is now just banging around in there. Sounds like some beans in a coffee can, I get this shitty buzzing too at a certain rpm. I really need to get a different muffler. I wonder if its restricting exhaust flow..

One thing I like abotu my LM, when mine finally decide to come apart, they will just eject themselves out the tips, nothing to get caught on Might be loud, but it's got a plus side.

Wow, this is a tough crowd. 40,000 miles its about time to change things up anyway. Mine has lasted 4 years, and yes there was some surface rust from daily driving. Ever heard of spray paint? Looks better than new and still making good sound. I am putting one on my truck very soon, because the aftermarket cat back on it rusted through after 50,000 miles. I got excited to see it rust through, because now I get to change it. Honestly wouldn't care if my Z28 muffler crapped out so I could go with true duals now, but love the hooker when it was my DD.
Think of it as an Opportunity! Heck I bought the sazall I have been wanting to get, so I could cut the truck cat back off. It gave me a reason to buy it!!

I just figured the first thing to break would be the exterior of the catback like the actual muffler not the inside? WTF anyway yea yea I guess time for a magnaflow I'm kinda tired of being loud. Stealth is good. Wont alert my buddies the pigs as much.

Ive had mine for about 3 years and no problems. You could buy a $700 Corsa system and have it break after a week.

how well do the magnaflow systems flow compared to the other cat-backs out there like the lm? I know both are stainless steel and shouldnt rust so the maganflow or LM1/2 may be a good route for him to go
