Default Stay with CAI or switch to Lid?

ok i have this on my car now, i think its a K&N, not sure though.

im worried that it draws too much hot air into the intake from the engine. should i stay with this or get a traditional air box with SLP lid? which would be more efficient?

i have the SLP flow pac. I love it. It looks awesome and you can notice a slight difference. I've heard mixed reviews on your setup. I would think logically, that a lid would pull in more cold air than your setup. Just my .02

i have the kn fipk too...i like it...keep the filter clean! you can buy a kit from the parts store for about $10. i think it looks better imo. im going to get a polished radiator cover to replace the black piece and that will look better that a lid i think. i dont think it is going to hurt you that much if any. just my .02

Just stick with what you have, it wouldn't be worth swapping.

I can only speak from an LS1/LS2 set up. A true cold air intake will net you some horsepower(8 to 16 rwhp). An intake set up to pull engine compartment air will actually reduce horsepower. I have seen this time and time again on the dyno. Dyno with the hood up and than dyno with the hood down. I have seen as much as a 15 rwhp loss from the open air intake. You see very little change from a good cold air intake with the hood up or down. Since most of us don't drive around with the hood up or off an engine compartment intake may be going backwards in trying to improve horsepower.

im gonna agree with Mr.27. a lid and other CAI kit like the SSRA will net much better gains with less heat drawn in

I think theres alot of engine heat get'n to that sucker. Here's some picks of mine to compair.

Heres one without the lid and filter. You can see that engine heat would have a harder time get'n through with the stock air box.

I think i am going to change. it just doesnt make much sense to me to have the open element filter pulling hot air in, it gets pretty hot in there. im thinking a lid with the FTRA or SSRA will get me better gains as stated. pSSycotic, im not a big fan of the clear MTI but if you want my set up, ill be more than happy to cut you a deal on it. LMK. thanks guys.

I have the same set up, and it works great. The only thing I did different was I cut out the radiator support under the filter. Fresh air come from underneath and is directed up to the radiator and to the bottom of the filter.I had my car dynoed and it made 310 at the wheels. This was the only thing done to the car at that point. I think it works.
