Default 2.5" TD system needs new upper panhard?

I am trying to get a couple of shops to fab up a 2.5" TD system out the back over the axle but two shops have told me I need the relocation kit for the upper panhard bar. Is this true, I thought only a 3" system would need this.

Getting pretty frustrated, is there someplace I can order some pipe thats already bent that I can weld into place myself?

I don't know if I HAD to have it on mine, but it really helped the guys out who fabbed it up.

I don't even have my upper panhard rod on the car anymore. I took it off. Been driving like that for gosh probably at least 20,000 miles.

How much is the shop charging you for the custom exhaust with installation?? For the price it may be worth it to just get a pre-made truel dual system, like the Bassani header back true dual system. It comes with an X-pipe and everything from the headers back. I also don't think you need to remove the panhard bar with the Bassani system.

Where would the panhard bar connect if there is no upper? Don't you need the panhard bar to center the rear end? Not trying to be a smartass, just wondering.

I have a 2.5 dual sytem over the axle on the passenger side and out the back with no interference with the upper panhard rod at all. I think the key is is to have both pipes over the passenger side of the axle. If the shop knows what they are doing it can be done.

There are two of them... One connected to both opposite ends of the body and the lower one connected to the body and the axle.

LS1Mike, do you have any pics of your system?

So there really isnt any need for the upper panhard rod if I dont plan on taking this car to the strip?

What does the upper do then? How much weight can you actually drop with removing it?

It is a structural rigidity piece that I personally wouldn't recommend getting rid of. It gives the tabs that hold the panhard to the body some extra strength. On a track only car (drag racing that is), I wouldn't worry about it, but I wouldn't take it off under any other circumstances.

Plus you'd only be saving a few pounds at best.

It seems like I should be able to fit a 2.5" pipe through there without taking out the upper panhard rod , I think I am just going to the wrong shops. But there isnt much to choose from in San Luis Obispo, CA. I wish I could get the pipes from somewhere that are already bent and then rent a welder since I have no way to bend the pipes myself.
