You will probably need to unbolt the Y pipe from your exhaust manifolds to get access to the cats. Once you get to the cats, it's easy to gut them- you can use a long screwdriver, crowbar, icepick, etc...break up all the honeycomb material inside the cat and get it out of there.

Gains will probably be minimal, but the increased flow can't hurt; although you may trigger an SES light if you haven't disabled your rear O2 sensors. You will need to disable the rear O2's with PCM programming or get O2 simulators if you want to avoid SES lights.

Good luck!

i gutted my cats and regret it so badly beacuse its just screwed up my milage and killed my performance sligtly why not just get high flow cats from magnaflow.

i unbolted the y pipe cut the cats off put them on the bench removed all the insides and then i welded in a pipe so it wouldnt resonate and welded it all back together.

I gained some decent numbers off of deleting mine . You will not loose power by deleting your cats improving flow is going to get better numbers on a LS1 . when it was mostly stock like lid slp loudmouth I and deleted my cats and some free mods it put down 339 rwhp and 360 rwtq .

Good call 2001z! Never ever seen deleting cats actually HURT performance. Increase in flow=less backpressure=a little more low end torque and NO fuel mileage! lol
