Just installed headers and now the car is way too loud. What do I do?
I helped a friend of mine install headers and duals on his 2000 Z28 B4C and after that he helped me install headers on my 1999 Z28. I still have some issues to work out, like tuning and the Y pipe hitting the floor, but the biggest problem I have is how crazy loud my car is now. I might as well have open headers. It's really that obnoxious. I knew the car would be louder and I don't have a problem with that at all. But, this is absurd. My friend's B4C with headers, ORY, and duals with bullets isn't even close to this loud. I have Pacesetter headers and off-road Y with SLP's Loudmouth catback with the quad tips. I want to keep the quads, so I'm thinking I need to replace the SLP bullet muffler with something much quiter. In other words, I'm not willing to buy a whole new catback. A friend of mine suggested buying Borla's XR-1 bullet. I'm concerned I won't have room for it though. Maybe I do, I really don't know. But, besides that, the XR-1 is quite expensive and I hate to spend all that money on a muffler that's not going to make much of a difference. So, I'm wondering what you all have to suggest.

You have the most obnoxious exhaust setup on the market, that is what the problem is! You can put a bullet or a XR1, or moroso sprial flow in the system and it will help tremendously! Good luck

We welded a Spin Tech muffler into the Magnaflow exhaust on my '02 Z28 to keep it reasonable. With FLP longtubes, Y-Pipe and Test pipes, it would have been very damn loud. Now, with the Spin Tech in place of the Magnaflow resonator, it sounds very good and still fairly loud.
Kinda nit-picky, but your friend can't have a "Z28 B4C". He has one or the other.

gotta at least slap another resonator inline...
but for a real solution, i think i actually have an idea as to how we can rig it up as a normal catback with a muffler and still keep your 4 in the middle. if you bring your car to adam's this weekend i can lay it out for you, and i happen to have a catback sitting around that would work perfect for it

Lol Joblo...you woke up a 5 year old thread. I was reading all this thinking it was new, no one has been on this thread since October of 2006.
It's true though, this guy didn't do his homework very well. When you get the SLP exhaust, and that resonator you're bound to no headers basically, unless you get a new type of muffler. The SLP exhaust is very loud with a complete stock set-up, which I have. But I knew it would be, and don't plan on getting headers any time soon, if at all.
