Default Adding Fast 90/90

I did 4 searches and they all timed out so please be patient with me on this. I am sure this has been answered before. I'm currently running a ls6 intake and ported stock tb. I am a cam and bolt ons only stock heads. Would I be wasting money on a fast 90 90 set up? My cam is a g5x3 wich loves to rev. Any ideas what kind of power increase I might get from this or will I lose bottom end power with very little gains on top? Any responses are welcomed. I will be in the near future be spraying a 150 wet shot on the car also so take that into consideration. thanks - Bob

Default re fast 90/90

I think you will see some improvement because you have a cam and bolt ons. I bought this set up without having a cam and it hurt me. I had all bolt ons but a stock motor. several compianies told me i needed a cam and heads for this setup to really work. i also have an a4 with no converter and that didnt help. I think youll be ok. mines going on a 408 that will soon be running. hope i could help some.

I dont see you losing the low end too too much...if at all. You will pick some up on the top end...should see atleast 10rwhp I would imagine.

I see that you have 1 7/8 headers.....are you planning on building the motor in the future?

Plan on it blowing up first, "not intentionally" then yes. What about adding the spray? Would I see greater gains on the juice? Any input is welcomed here. I could always hold installing it untill I get my afr's.

Unless you are going with a serious set of heads or perhaps a built bottom along with a serious set of heads I honestly wouldn't. People assume the ls6 is a bottle neck and its not. You may not make as much peak power as you see in magazines but its all about a usable powerband. Don't trade throttle response and drivability for a dyno number. Not to mention, 10 hp is not worth $900-1100 bucks. With the power you are making now and your trap speed you should be running 11's. Just an opinion, later bro.

I would do it. Doesnt the fast setup have a direct port for nitrous too? It would be even more useful with a good set of heads too.

wait for heads to really utilize the increased flow.... your stockers will sufficate all that incoming air as some nice flowing heads will work and match well

a set of heads will gain you more power than the FAST setup. for about the same price. im assuming you have upgraded the rear for this much power correct?
edit: i see you have so you are one step ahead of the game. get heads then get the FAST. now if you had a stock LS1 intake this would be another story. but right now heads will give you better gains than the 90/90

Well i'm getting the intake. Maybe it will sit for a couple of months till i get my heads then i'll do it all at once. Any how the deal on the 90/90 set up is much less than half what the afr's are going to run me. Thank you all for the quick answers. I'll keep you all updated with new #'s in the spring.

I'm doing it.
I'll be cam and exhaust only here shortly, but I plan on heads in the future.
I'd say go for it.
If the general attitude is to leave room for growth, that's about as much room as you can get.
And you can customize it and paint it and make it look all shiny too, which is cool.

so now you will have an intake and it will be sitting while you save up money for heads. so you spent about 1300 bucks and it hasent done a thing for your car. now that you have spent 1300 bucks thats 1300 bucks you dont have for heads that you have to wait longer for to save up to get the heads. if you just nix the intake for now and get the heads, you can have the heads quicker and have the power quicker. then you save up for the intake.

let me throw a scenario at you.
now this is just an easy numbered scenairo. not a true sitiuation

you have 380 RWHP
you have $2000 in the bank
the FAST setup is about $1500 all said and done
the heads are $2500 all said and done
you make $2000 a month
by the time you pay your bills for the month you have $500 to put in the bank.

SCENAIRO #1
You buy the FAST -$1500
you now have $500 in the bank and its mid november. pay day is 2 weeks from now.
you get paid $1000. you now have $1500 in the bank and about 400 RWHP.
2 weeks roll by and you get paid again, you pay some bills and you sock away $250.
you now have $1750 and a month later still only have 400 RWHP.
4 weeks roll by and you get paid and take care of bills and sock away another $500 you now have $2250 and still only 400RWHP
another 2 weeks roll by and you get paid and finally have enough money for heads, $2500.
now 2 months have rolled by with only 400RWHP. how was it?
now have 450RWHP with heads and cam and intake after 2.5 months.

SCENAIRO #2
you DONT buy the FAST
you still have $2000 in the bank.
one month rolls by and you save up 500 bucks.
you now have enough for heads.
you buy the heads and you now have 430 RWHP after only one month. hows that feel? better than 2.5 months with only 400RWHP dosent it? it will still take you 2.5 months at this rate to get H/C/I but you will have more HP faster going with heads rather than intake.

@ bww3588

Why are you putting so much thought into this.

It comes down to are you getting heads or not. A cammed car will benefit from the 90mm intake. If you are going to buy heads down the road, then wait, get them done at the same time. Then you can pay once for tuning as well.

The kicker is nowhere does he say he wants to ever change heads. He is thinking about spraying. The Fast intake comes with ports for nitrous. His cam will also be able to breathe more with a bigger intake.

If you have the money, go for it. And if you go for heads later after the nitrous and intake, you will be set.

Umm your logic if flawed in a few ways #1 I already have 405 rwhp
#2 the 90/90 combo is costing me $800. If you can find a better deal than that I would like to see it. "Saves me $500 off your estimate" And I'm already 3/4 of the way to the afr's. There are 5 paydays this month, and that pay will cover the rest of the heads and installation along with milling and flycutting of the pistons. Not to mention the nx kit thats sitting around waiting to be installed. Thanks for all the thought you put into this. But proper planning is going to save me some serious $$$$$ So what if a part sits for a few weeks before it's installed? The heads are actually an after thought and at this point I'm going to have everything done and tuned at the same time= 1 bill. As far as getting things done in 1 month or 2 it does'nt matter there will be snow on the ground here in less than a month then the car sits all winter anyway.

no its not flawed, its a hypotheticial sitiuation.
