Default FAST Manifold question

Now I realize the whole point of porting the intake is to rid it of the casting flaws. Now I've noticed on the bottom piece, the intake tracts(where they meet the cylinder head ports) have 2 semi-deep ridges on the sides. Does that need to be smoothed as well or do I just leave it alone?

I would ask a pro. All you are gonna get posting this are speculations from people who have never ported an intake. I can't honestly tell you either. I can however tell you who to ask. Tony Mamo @ AFR.

I figured as much, but seeing as how most "pros" make profit from porting, why would they leak information ?

You are paying for the labor. He has said it on here a few times and posted pics about a year ago. Most of them don't mind helping out. Lots of people would rather send it in to have ported anyway....just because of fear in jacking up the 900$ intake they just bought.

Those embossments are there as a guide for if your port matching to the heads.
There a porting limit IE don't grind off any deeper than those notches.
I think it says that in the manual somewhere, but it could be speculation

I ported the skijumps in each runner that everybody does, but havn't tried port matching to the heads.
I'll never know if what I did hurt or helped, so take this with a grain of salt.

And speculation and incomplete information is what makes the internet great!
Can you ever really be 100% on what you get from any forum?

Whenever I talk to car dudes, (since im a noob) I always qualify stuff with "well I read it on the internet", ive gotten many a ha.

'tsall good.

I can never tell when it comes to "porting".
Everything in the LS1 world is 'ported' and far as I can tell it just means grinding stuff off.
I hope TM or another reputable speaks in this thread and comments on what is safe to port on the LSX on your own and what isnt.
I've read that there are parts that yeah you can do on your own, and others that only an experienced should attempt as screwing it up can hurt in the end.

I've seen one guide on grinding the ski jumps and never read anything negative about grinding those off, which is why I did mine.

I'd almost like to see a FAST LSX porting do's and don'ts as its such a popular intake.
I did take a crapload of pix when I did mine

I'd be interested in any sort of write up that anyone here has either seen or created themselves. I am in the slow process of porting my fast intake, but I'm not really getting carried away with removing material...I'm just cleaning up the casting marks and obvious sharp edges that would impede airflow. I will likely also port match to my cnc ported ls6 heads I'm going to pick up within a month or so.

Bump for any more good information to help us self-porters
