Default New Era Throttle Bodies Vs Others

Does anyone know what they do to port their throttle bodies..ie do they knife edge the butterfly or remove the stop etc....

And how do they compare to the Kateck units..which are twice the price

I have a new era ported TB. They do not knife edge the blade. If you ask them to do the bump stop mod they will. I went with New Era because i didnt have much money and they had a good price.

Good quality work for a good price.

Thanks for the bump SmokeySS...
Yeah BayArea..$$ are important..and It sounds like its another case of you get what you pay for....Ive been looking at New Era/Shaner/S2 for a while.

The one big point I like about New Era is that you get your own TB back Vs a core charge..and inherate someone elses problems.

Does anyone know if any of the others replace or refurbish or even test the othe bits that are part of the TB before shipping them back out to customers.

I have this nightmare that I get this nice shiny TB back and the other parts (electrical etc) don work or go bad.

well for what it's worth, my throttle body was done by thunder racing and it was an exchange and teh throttle body i recieved had no problems. there's not much that can go wrong with it and if it's obvious, i doubt they would send it out. in any event, new era is a great company i would love to have them do my ls6 intake. i chose thunder racing on the basis that they knife the blade. i doubt it offers any gains but i just thought it was cool. its really up to you, i really believe they are all the same.

It is easy to pull off the electronics. Simple Torx screws. Just send the mechanical portion

exactly..what if its not obvious...Ive got to then do the exchange dance..

Yeah..I believe that a ported TB isa ported TB...but with Thunders Price being twice that of new era's I was just wondering what the diff was...

I also know that Thunder Racing TB are actually Katech's product..which is really good stuff

I wonder what would happen if you kept your own electronics....Guess I gotta call'em

I was satisfied. At first i didnt notice anything but the same day i put it on i raced a lightning and noticed i was getting to redline faster than before. I almost bounced off the limiter because it got there faster than it use to.

So i definately felt it in the upper range. Throttle response was also better...i tapped the gas in second at like 3k and my *** came off the seat a little. Me and a friend both noticed it didnt do that before the Ported TB.

imo....and im not trying to be a dick...but thats prolly just in your head.... a ported TB will have minimal gains... its more like a "everything adds up" type of deal with the gains

Have you thought about doing it yourself? It is pretty simple, just take your time. Cheaper than having a shop do it and you don't have to worry about what you're getting back.

I did mine about a week ago and I am happy with the results. Here's the link: Ported TB

I'll throw in my 2 cents. I have an MTI billet throttle body and I DEFINITELY noticed a difference in throttle response. Not a good TB to go with if price is a main concern, but my point is a good TB can make a noticeable difference, not just one in your head.

new era here as well. happy with the work and the turn around. i have seen other pics of BO's work and he is super meticulious. i did have to adjust the throttle cable once i got the TB back. other than that everything is good.
