Question Those who have TD's on a DD, would you change it?

I am not looking at this from a performance aspect but simply a livabilty and enjoyabilty aspect. I am not trying to refute the performance gains that TD's have and I would probably go with TD's were my car not a DD.

I just thought I might start a poll, since it seems alot of people are wanting TD's, but are concerned about the loudness and resonnance.
I know that alot of people that have TD's on a DD are getting tired of the loudness/droning and either get the exhaust extended out the back or go back to a catback setup.

If you currently have TD's on your DD;
Are you going to or want to go back to a catback setup?
Are you going to get it extended out the back of the car?
Are you happy and content with sound?

This is strictly an informational thread, not meant to start any kinda battle of what is better.

Thanks, James.

I love it. I would not change it for anything. There is nothing like waking up at 5 in the morning to go to work and setting off alarms in the parking lot.

why do you have a poll of all questions and no real choices to vote from??

i wouldn't change it. in fact if i could get away with it (by johnny law), i'd tune the car to run open headers

I had a cutout that dumped under the rear seat. After a month, I had it removed and patched up, then went with the mufflerless route with two tips out the back. Its a lot quieter inside the car with that setup, and about the same outside the car.

I've heard true duals and they sound awesome, but for me they are just too damn loud to be driving on the interstate for an hour every day.

I love my dumped TDs. I only want to extend the pipes underneath the axle so I can run tips. Believe me when I say I'm not in any hurry to do so.

not to hi-jack the thread or anything but...

These clearance issues..like what problmes have you encountered?

bottoming out on speedbumps?etc?

I would hate to taco my pipes on a speedbump, lol

I am just trying to get as much info as possible before I get my car..so when in fact i do.,.i know what i want...

BTW..I dunno if its me or what..but everything i've owned has had the muffler removed and been dumped,lol...

hasn't bothered me yet..

By far the best was my 03 Duramax..dumped after the cab...

doubt ill go back to catback, too quiet
i want to get it out the back, right now its a bit much for a DD inside
love the sound. wicked, mean, raw, wrong yet so right.

the looks i get are priceless, either they can't believe how loud it is, or they love it.

if i had to do it again, im not certain i would, but idk. my y pipe bangin is what made me decide to switch.

I've had all of the above, with pics. Check out my sig links.

I now have a y-pipe/cutout setup and it's dead silent (when closed).

I'm right there with you. I drove 2 hours both ways to have my car dyno tuned and could listen to the radio and without droning. The cutout will by operated by switch instead of by wrench shortly.

I see there are alot of die hards on here I was in the same boat about 6 years ago with my TA, it couldn't be too loud. But now I like to have my cake and eat it too. I personally love the way TD's sound and the power they produce. Once my car is not a DD I will most likely go TD's.

Just thought that those considering TD's and had concerns could have a quick reference of opinions from owners. Thanks guys.

The Bassani True Dual exhaust (what I had on my car) is the best of both worlds.

It's refined enough to not drone or be too loud, and it has excellent ground clearance.

I wouldn't even consider switching back, there's no reason to.

Just further info, the only reason I have clearance issues is because I didn't trim the TSP set up to fit my QTP Headers (hvmc)...I got in a hurry and got lazy. Also have cutouts placed behind the X and those are the lowest part of my setup. I've NEVER had the pipes hit where they run under the axle so if anyone's worried about that, don't be. With TSP, the lowest part is the driver's side where it dips down right after the collector, at least that's my experience. My dad and I did the whole thing.

i have magnaflow mufflers with a true dual setup that dumps at the axel. on a stock car its perfect, now that i have a cam honestly its a bit much. im thinking more and more about spending $1500 and having speed inc do me a true dual setup out the back.

It's been over two years since I had Speed Inc. fab up my duals, and I've been happy with it since the day I picked it up. Clearance is nice, sound is nice, and it performs well too. I'll have to see how it sounds on the highway once I get my rear with 4.11s put in...I'm sure it'll be a little louder cruising on the interstate (since I'll be turning more RPMs), but I'll see if I can handle it. If not, I'm not sure what I'll do, but I'd be more likely to change the gearing to 3.73s rather than change the exhaust.

i have an x-pipe with a bung for wide-band and sweet thunders that exit out the sides just in front of the rear wheels. so far so good, but most likely will run the exhaust out the back later on. true duals are awesome. will never go back to a y-pipe.
