Default What type of vibration is associated with poly motor mounts?

High frequency buzzing(sound)? or lower, thumping (shaking car)?

None of the above (for 99% of people).

I've only seen about 2 people who have EVER complained about them. Poly trans mount will cause some vibrations, but most (including myself) just get used to it.

if you have a lumpy cam the whole car will shake instead of just the motor..any internal vibration issues with the motor will be compounded by the poly motor mounts

No vibrations here either. Like orange said, the cam lope is really felt in the whole car, but in a good way. Poly mounts really tighten up the car. I can't say the same when I added a poly transmission mount though. I couldn't stand the buzzing and vibrating and put the stock mount back in.

Vibration with my poly tranny mount was so bad I took it out and went back to stock a week later. A couple years later I went to poly engine mounts (my original stockers were completely shot - engine could move at least an inch) - I was worried about vibration but there was no problem. Vibration was actually better than with the shot stockers.

Installing them is a different story. I put them in with my LT's in place and I would never want to do that again. If anyone is installing headers - do the motor mounts at the same time.

Is that the only reason people change the motor mounts, since they're installing headers at the same time? Are they prone to failure at XXXXX mileage?

Yes, the stockers crap out after time, and don't work very well when new. They are WAY too easy to change with the headers out, and the mother of all bastards to change with the headers in. I'd seriously pull my whole exhaust system off to change the mounts before I changed them with it in.

How bad would it be to do while doing a H/C swap?

Easy, but only if you're pulling the headers out. Most people just unbolt them and push them to the side.

With the heads out of the way, you MIGHT be able to get to them easy with the headers pushed over, but I doub't it. At that point, you may as well pull the headers.

Yeah I wasn't planning on actually taking them out, just moving them out the way. If its a PITA I guess I'll take them out.

My poly engine mounts went in with my cam. It's a very mild, low shake for me. Not bad at all, I actually like it because my cam is so mild there is very little lope. It also fixed my y-pipe banging on the floorboard and my clutch chatter.

Like it's been said above, it's hell to install them. I actually paid a shop big bucks to have it done just so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I felt just a slight increase in cabin vibration. On both my performance cars I've had poly motor mounts, and recommend them. They really tighten up the structure, and don't cause any harsh vibrations. Same goes for the poly trans mount, I thought it was well within the definition of daily driver.

The only poly I had trouble with with was the tranny mount on my A4. Motor mount and torque arm bushing were not a problem.

I didn't notice hardley any vibration from the poly motor mounts, but when I added the poly trans mount it was absolutely horrible. I ended up putting the stock tranny mount back on.
