Thumbs up DID SEARCH!! Car battery??

What is the safest way to replace the stock battery that I have in my '99 SS without screwing anything up? I know I have to remove the negative terminal first, then the positive terminal and make sure they do not touch.
Are there any other precautions I should be aware of? Am I missing something? This will be my first battery swap and want to make sure I am doing it correctly. This shouldn't affect my pcm, radio or drivablity of the car in anyway would it?
Please help! Thank you!!!!

No it wont hurt anything like the pcm or drivability. If you have a stock headunit be sure the theftlock is not active.

turn the radio off before you unhook it or you might freak it out and it will go into the theft mode thing

Thanks for your replies guys. I really appreciate it!!
How do I know the radio is theftlock active?
And how do I deactivate it if it is active?

you'll know its activated if the theftlock light on the h/u is blinking. Here is something to help you unlock it if you need to.
1. Press and hold presets 2 & 3 for about 10 seconds until the first 3 digits of the display code are displayed
2. Write the numbers down.
3. Press the AM FM button, write down the next 3 numbers
4. Call 1-800-537-5140, when asked, enter 06010, press the * button and enter the 6 digit code from the radio, you will get an unlock code, write it down.
5. Go back to the car, press the HR button and set the first 2 numbers, then press the minute button and set the next two last numbers, press AM FM button, SEC should be displayed, turn on the radio

To remove the code, repeat step 5. you should see --- on radio face, the code is now out of the radio.

Can't remember for sure but I think it tells you on the face of the radio when it is active

When you stick the battery back in, positive first, then negative.

Thank you transamman.
I've thrown the idea around of selling her. Maybe?? It would be the money towards either a '69 Camaro SS/'69 Chevelle SS PRO-TOURING machine.
She's got 15,200 on the clock, NEVER sees wet pavement, snow or rain and is ALWAYS garaged. Comes out to about, 1,900 miles per year?? White leather. Hardly driven, which is why I am asking about changing the battery. The battery doesn't seem to take a charge anymore.
Again, THANK YOU GUYS!!!

If your interested in selling it, I would be willing to make you an offer. Anymore pics, info would be great. As far as the battery, I have noticed a trend in my cars of about 2 years of good service from a battery then it just craps out regardless of the amount of use it sees.

I'll have to think about it.
I would sell it for some coin though, just because or the rarity of the car and options and MILEAGE. Everyone wants a HO SS and I have the white leather also.
I ordered it in March of '99 and got her in June of '99. Talk about anticipation!?!? If you do a search of my screenname, tones2SS, under the appearance/details section, you will see some good shots of her.
Like I said, I'm just throwing it out there right now. Something I have to SERIOUSLY think about.
