i'm pretty sure all of the manufactureres would have used plastic cuss of the 40 pound difference to try and lightent up their cars if they could have gotten away with it. they had to be metal to heatsink the fuel going threw the runners to vaporize it. in cold winters fuel is harder to ignight, so you heat it up and get it to a tinier mist to light up, now flash forward to today....we have injectors taht pulse longer and atomize the fuel better for cold winters. theres no fuel that runs threw the intake runners... we dont need the metal ones, all they do for us is add extra weight, and dead weight is womp womp. fuel economy goes down slighty, and in todays world. we all want 600 hp cars and still want like 50 mpg, we try and lighten up the car any little bit.
