Question stock Y pipe?

how restrictive is the stock Y pipe especially the part on the drivers side where it is very flat? is there a ORY that can hook up to the existing manifolds? is there any gain in HP in doing so? I know it's probably just cheaper to replace the headers and Y pipe but was curious to know?

Look to the sponsors to the right, there is a replacement for the stock manifolds that is much better, but if you are going to spend the money might as well save some more up and get a set of LT and Y.

The stock piece is a choke point in the exhaust.

Although it is a restriction, you are not going to gain much just changing the ypipe. It's not worth it. Change it out when you get headers, do them at the same time. Much better cost/performance ratio.

well I have a buddy at a muffler shop that will cut out the flat spot and replace it with a 3" piece? I just wanted to know if it will gain any ET or RWHP on a dyno?

not much if any. If wants to do it for cheap then why not try it. If he is in there why not get a replacement muffler then to wake it up a bit.

I have an SLP y that i bought with 2500 miles on it. I put in on the car and have probably put 500 miles on it. I bought it planning on keeping my car relatively stock, but i just ordered some longtubes so it will be fore sale soon. I payed $75 for it. Its like $200+ brand new. Its in awesome condition and will be coming off the car soon so if you want it let me know. It changed the tone of the exhaust a tiny bit. I have a video if you wanna see it. Will most likely sell it for 75 + shipping.

Bassani ORP worked well for me only $250.00, bolts on in 1 hour, gets rid of cats. Buddy w/ same mods plus LT headers only gain 10 HP on dyno. I do have 01 supposed to have better flowing exhaust mani.

Don't bother jacking with the flat spot, or the cats. My aftermarket ORY has a flattened spot. I'd rather sacrifice .1hp for off-road-style ground clearance.

Plenty of other free mods you can do if you've just got the itch, I know how it feels. I too once cut off my EGR tube.

random technology makes a great fitting hi flow cats and y system that is 100% direct bolt-on. it took me 30 min. to replace that on my sisters ws6 on a lift.

I saw this a while ago in the for sale section. If he's going to do it for free you might as well get it done, can't hurt, and every little bit helps.

Make sure it's a before/after dyno, and on the same dyno.

That's an expansion joint/vibration absorber.

No, aftermarket y pipe do not have that joint. The most I've seen from a cutout was a H/C car (I believe) that had a Flowmaster behind it. I think it was like 20-30rwhp lol.

Most gains are going to be less than that, as nearly all catbacks are better. I made back to back runs with my cutout open/closed and ran identical times. This is making about 400rwhp, with an SLP Dual/Dual muffler.

well, my car came with some kind of knock off muffler so if I got 10-15 rwhp gain I would be happy with it!
