Default my shift light doesnt work.

I have a raptor shift light. it is connected to the #10 pin. power is connected to my traction control pink wire and it has a good ground. power isnt the problem. it lights up and goes thru its little test light show when i start the car...but when i hit the desired rpm...light doesn't come on? its set to 4 cylinder mode. and i tried setting it to different rpms...nothing. alls it does it do the little test when i start the car and thats it. any one have any suggestions? all connections are good. i double checked everything. do i just have a bad shift lite?

what year is your car? if it is a '98 then you are on the wrong PCM wire.

also double check that you are tapping into the right wire on the right PCM connector

I am having the same problem with my raptor shift light. I have a 98 and I am connected to the number 35 pin(white wire) of the PCM. Goes through the self test but just doesn't come on when the desired shift point is reached.

I am going to check that tonight. I used one of the blue splice connectors. Maybe I need to replace that. Any other way to check the signal connection?

I need to get me one of those, since adding power that stock tach is just slow enough to annoy me

those splices suck, especially on small wire...not really, i guess you could hook up a mulitmeter to see if you're getting a variable ouput, but not sure what signal it uses..

What are some other good options to splice into the wire then? I have always used these.

I cut the wire I'm splicing into and use a butt-connector. Stick 2 wires in one side, one wire in the other. I've done 100's of them this way.

Those little clamp-down splice things are the devil, unless you're in a hurry lol.

Yeah, I have done that too...don't know what I was thinking. I will rewire that tonight. Maybe that is my problem. I had a power issue with it at first and it ended up being one of those clamp down types. I used my last butt splices fixing those wires..that is the reason I didn't try rewiring the tach wire.

A good crimp should hold as good as solder...

I have a nice set of insulated connector crimpers. They clamp down so tight the wire will pull apart before it comes out. Put the ole' Vulcan death-grip on those bad boys.

Although there is usually never any conudctor exposed after I crimp, I usually wrap each one up with tape anyway as a backup.

okay, I got me some more butt splices. I removed the crimp type splice and rewired it with a regular butt splice and it now works perfectly. That was the third crimp type that I had to replace because it wasn't making a good connection. Anyway, thanks for the input.

Yeah, it is working now. I had it mounted to the sterring column but after almost blinding myself, I moved it to the pillar in the defrost vent. Looks like it is going to be a very nice piece.
