is it dumb to descreen a mass air flow sensor and if not do you think you get much out of it?

+1 for leaving it. When I switched out my stock airbox for a lid I found that a seal had given out and the shreads were caught by the screen. After seeing that it convinced me to leave it there because you never know what might go past the filter and youre better safe than sorry.

It's main purpose is to ensure a uniform airflow over the wires of the MAF so that you get a correct reading.

When I did my lid install, I found not one but 3 of those 4" long pine needles sitting on the MAF screen. Immediately after, the K&N came out and a cheapo paper filter went on.

Take it for what it's worth but I picked up 8rwhp from descreening the maf and adding a k&n filter.

I've descreened all of my MAF's and nothing has happened in either instances. I don't have to worry about it anymore though b/c I'm running SD.
